The Old Station House Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #3 of 5 Rowsley B&B and Inns
Reviewed 31 October 2013

The Old Station House is a lovely B&B which is well situated for a visit to the Peak District. The owners provide a wonderful binder full of information about the house and local area. The house is very close to Chatsworth, so close you could walk there. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take advantage of the many walks that they provide directions for, but I'll just have to come back again for that! There are only three room sin the B&B, so it is quiet even when full. The room I stayed in was towards the front of the house. It was very clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The bathroom was updated with plenty of hot water and excellent water pressure. Breakfast was plentiful and is served family style in the lounge. It was nice to be able to chat with the other visitors rather than be isolated at a separate table. I had a lovely, if too short, visit and hope to return again soon.

Room Tip: My room was in the front of the house and may have a bit of road noise, but I always travel with ear...

We had a lovely break at this comfortable B&B. Breakfasts were great and advice about the local area was greatly appreciated. Recommended as a great place to stay near Chatsworth.
We had a very comfrotable room and the location was very central for trips to other interesting places in the Peak District

The Old Station House is perfectly located between Matlock and Bakewell with several wonderful walks from its doorstep. My brother and I stayed there for four nights in a very comfortable room with TV, CD Player and DVD Player. The beds were comfortable the en suite absolutely spotless with a shower that worked just as you wanted it to.
The dining room was delightful, the table laid with precision with everything you needed to enjoy the fabulous breakfast that was cooked to perfection and which prepared you for the first ten miles of your walk.
Victoria is just wonderful, an intelligent and imformative host who is attentive and certainly works very hard to ensure that her guests enjoy their stays at her lovely house. Thank you so Victoria,I will be back to stay again soon. Kenny D

Room Tip: We had a room at the back of the house and shared a room with twin beds. Very comfortable and ideal...

My husband and I stayed 3 nights.spotlessly clean, very comfortable cosy rooms and short of nothing. Everything very well thought out . Lots of information about the area, walks, venues and eating places. There was a TV and DVD player(with DVDs for your use, and being able to use my new aquired tablet through the WiFi was a bonus. The cooked breakfast were first class. My husband went to sleep dreaming about them. We have no hesitation in recommending The Old Station House. Trish LS29

The old station house is located in Rowsley close to plenty of walks and a very short drive to Chattsworth house. There is car parking as well. The breakfast was cooked to order and served efficiently. The rooms are small but clean and value for money. There are no rooms on the ground floor so not suitable for people who have problems with steps although only about 15 small steps to get to the rooms. There is moderate traffic noise as the house is situated on a main road if that is an issue for people.

Prettily converted stationmaster's cottage. Bright little double room with good en suite bathroom and comfortable bed. Fantastic pack of local walks and tourist venues in the drawer of our table/desk.. TV and DVD player in room. Plenty of room for our luggage, with careful planning - suitcases fitted under the bed. Delicious breakfasts, eaten together with the other guests in family style and happy conversation. Our hostess, Vicky, and her Mum gave any information we required and offered the lone of local maps, books, DVDs etc. Parking facilities were good. The B&B is situated in beautiful walking country - our first 5 hour round walk started just across the road and took us to Chatsworth House and back via beautiful countryside, gorgeous views and a lovely little teahouse.
We would certainly return to this delightful B&B.
Friendly good value pub just around the corner - large varied menu.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a desk/table. A previous reviewer complained about the lack of a table/desk for...

My other half and I have stayed here several times and I have also stayed alone. Immaculately clean, cosy rooms with all mod cons and facilities, great spacious showers and good quality bedding (please don't be discouraged by the towel issue below, two per person are provided and any further requests are happily granted). Breakfast to die for, all local ingredients which Viki sources herself and cooks with real care. The choice is extensive, far more than you would expect with a huge variety of options and dietary requirements catered for. Eggs are from the local farm and laid that day, bacon and sausages are of excellent quality, you really won't find better. The owners go out of their way to help with local knowledge about the area and recommendations for restaurants (several within walking distance for a variety of budgets from pub grub to seriously smart) and really take pride in their business. This is a very friendly B&B with a homely feel which allows guests to feel relaxed and comfortable whilst also allowing them maintain their privacy if required. I couldn't recommend it more highly and I will return.

Room Tip: All rooms are of good standard.
