“Afternoon Tea”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2013

My wife and I had afternoon tea at East Lodge on 5th July to celibrate an anniversary. The hotel has great grounds and gardens and we were greeted very nicely on arrival. Sandwiches, scones and cakes were good but the cakes and clotted cream suffered from the heat in the conservatory. A case for serving clotted cream or butter on ice in very hot weather perhaps. We also had to ask for a second pot of tea.

I stayed at this lovely hotel before and was so impressed that I felt moved to write my first review on Tripadvisor. Having vowed to return, I did so this week. All was as before - excellent in every way - with the exception of the room which was the smallest room I have ever stayed in - if you are intending to go, beware of room 7 which should, in my view, be classed as a single room and not a double. You could book a superior room in order to avoid it although this should really not be necessary!

Room Tip: Avoid Room 7 which should really be a single rather than a double.

My wife and I stayed three nights half-board earlier this week. We received a warm welcome & found our room (No 5) very comfortable - two steps down into the bathroom could be a problem - reasonable view over glass roof of conservatory, then driveway and car park then fields!

Food was of good quality and nicely presented. One problem was a steak ordered medium by my wife was closer to rare - the waitress offered to change it but such would have meant I would have eaten whilst she waited and she would have eaten after I had finished! Disappointingly, the Duty Manager knew of this problem but did not bother to get involved! We received an adjustment to the bill for this episode, when checking out the following morning.

Service was very good (especially Sam) and everyone was really friendly, with nothing being too much trouble.

Overall, very good but not quite justifying the cost.

Room Tip: Room 5 has two steps down to the bathroom AND is allegedly haunted!

We held our wedding here in June. We had the entire hotel to ourselves from lunchtime until after breakfast the following day. The help of the staff in planning for the day could not have been better and they implemented the plan perfectly! All our guests were thoroughly impressed, especially those who stayed overnight.

You may find less expensive wedding venues, but not, in my opinion, one that offers the value for money we found at East Lodge

We were invited to visit Derbyshire recently to see friends and decided to stay at East Lodge so we were near Chatsworth and other places we intended visiting. We were not disappointed! From the moment of booking our stay the vibes were good. When we arrived the welcome and attention was flawless. Bedroom fantastic, breakfasts super - the muesli was amazing! We stayed 3 nights and although we did not eat dinner as our friends had made other arrangements the dining room was great. A place we will certainly stay at again.
Thank you East Lodge!

Room Tip: All rooms seemed good as the hotel is a way from the road. We were upgraded and put in Arundel room...

Came to East Lodge today to celebrate my Mum's 70th birthday. Three generations of family - my mum, myself and my husband and my 2 daughters (11 and 12). It is a beautiful setting and today was a beautifully sunny day which added to it. We sat in the conservatory for afternoon tea. A wide range of tea available which was lovely (one daughter had orange juice), the scones were freshly baked and still warm. The sandwiches were tasty and beautifully presented and there was a lovely range of cakes including tangy lemon ones which meant that it wasn't too heavy.
The service was exceptional - they really couldn't do enough for us and were happy for us to stay as long as we liked.
My daughters are already planning the next occasion as we enjoyed it so much.

very pleasant afternoon spent with friends hving lovely afternoon tea. Delicious! Lovely setting and service. Only tiny bit of constructive feedback- would have preferred a bit more savory and less cakes........
