The accommodation was fine, the food average, sometimes good, but the leisure complex, and particularly the on site swimming pool had, I understand, been out of action for a month - and notification of its non availability was made less than 48 hours before departure.
The staff seemed to be unaware of their role on customer service - leaving customers waiting whilst they finished conversations amongst themselves - urgent management action needs to be taken on this. Only one member of staff, a waitress, seemed to put the customer first.

Room Tip: check which advertised facilities are available well before travel

We have visited Holme Lacy on several occasions as well as other hotels run by the Warner Group. We normally go away for a long weekend i.e. arrive Friday and leave Monday to celebrate birthdays, wedding anniversaries etc. We also like a summer break in July/August, the great benefit to us at that time of the year is that the hotels are a ‘kid free zone’. Our children are now grown up and the noise of other people’s children is not, for us, conducive to a relaxing break.
We normally chose our hotel based first on the evening entertainment, then location.
The entertainment can vary from 50’s through to 80’s music and covers the full spectrum from soul, 70’s disco to tribute acts, musicals etc.
The hotel offers a range of rooms, we have tried them all but find the signature rooms provide everything we need.
The price includes breakfast, with a choice of everything from full English to porridge and more healthy options and a three course evening meal with several choices for each course.
What myself and my wife do enjoy is the in house entertainment. You can dress up for dinner then walk into the evening entertainment. A table is reserved for your stay both in the restaurant and the entertainment area so no need to rush your meal to get a decent seat for the entertainment.
We enjoy a dance in a relaxed atmosphere and all the Warner hotels provide that environment, fellow guests are friendly and the staff are great. The entertainment has always been of a high standard and on several occasions has exceeded my expectations.
During the day there are free activities, quizzes, tours of the grounds, archery, putting, croquet, gym, swimming pool, sauna etc.
We normally visit attractions in the area so don’t use most of the in house facilities, although we do enjoy a swim and sauna. We also love sitting in the grounds with a coffee and cake or just strolling round the gardens and lake.
Warners tends to suffer from a perception that they are ‘old people’s homes’ we are both 61 and our perception is that most guests on a weekend break range from early 50s to late 80s. However because of the nature of the holiday most guests are ‘young at heart’ and tend to be up for joining in the activities and dancing.
In my view there are not many kid free zones where more mature adults can enjoy a relaxing and fun break with everything in house.

The hotel is good, apart from the Bistro restaurant which seriously needs updating, however the food was, as always at Warners, good and well presented. Staff are friendly and helpful and any concerns quickly dealt with. If visiting Hereford it is worth considering the hotel coach trip as car parking is really expensive. We paid £7.50 for 3 hours. Cathedral is well worth visiting also the nearby historic church, best to drive there. I recommend Holme Lacey.

The hotel coach trip to Hereford is definitely recommended to avoid the high parking charges in the city and more relaxing for our guests too
We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back again very soon

Because we have stayed at Holme Lacy before we had no difficulty in finding the place. However, the Satnav still does not accurately define the location of The House. Check in was friendly, efficient and well thought out. Because we had an Historic room (214) car parking was in a dedicated slot. This was useful but not essential. While we enjoyed coffees, using our free drinks voucher, our luggage was taken from reception to the room by a porter. We did not meet him as this was arranged by reception staff; much appreciated and our thanks to the porter.

Room 214 has a good outlook to the rear of the main house offering a picturesque view of one of the lakes and the hills beyond. Initial impression of the room was disappointing because we were able to compare it to our previous accommodation in the main house (room 221). 214 is smaller that 22; it is long and narrow, with two large windows that provide good light. On the other hand the small bathroom has no natural light and this was a significant disappointment to us.

There was sufficient drawer and wardrobe space; if not generous. Our greatest disappointment was the bed. Soft, and an intrusive zip link connection between the two mattresses that proved most uncomfortable. Neither of us enjoyed a good nights sleep throughout our three night occupation.

The other facilities were adequate; we enjoyed the bottle of wine provided. Overall the room was a disappointment.

Meals were to a satisfactory standard. The breakfasts are good. Waiter service is also good and we were surprised (delighted) to find that three of the waiters remembered us and greeted us with smiles. Our table was in the Main Dining Room and proved to be well located by the fireplace. We were fortunate to enjoy conversation with folks on the two tables adjacent to us. The Craic added to the enjoyment of our stay.

Having prebooked a Zone in The Theatre we found that the entertainment was not to our taste but the alternative options available in The Blue Room, and meeting other guests, made up for this. The Holme Lacy team of young singers and dancers (a few we recognised from a previous visit) were good fun, enthusiastic, bright and cheerful.

The weather was warm and invited outdoor activities. I enjoyed the rifle shooting and Archery. My thanks to Dan. Walks around the grounds and down to a church alongside The River Wye were most enjoyable.

Found the cost of drinks to be quite expensive, so reduced our intake to control the costs. Might have enjoyed a few more drinks if priced slightly lower. Cafe and bar staff were cheerful and helpful, especially Dawn and Lauren (cafe), and Lee in the Theatre bar. Will probably return to HL but not to room 214.

Room Tip: Choose your room carefully. Size and standard of accommodation differs.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback following your recent stay with us here an Holme Lacy House Hotel
Unfortunately we have no control over sat-navs and the directions that they give, however guests are very welcome to ring the hotel before they leave home or enroute to confirm the location. Also there are sign posts near to the hotel to guide our guests to us
I was sorry to read that you found your room disappointing. Our housekeeping team could have provided you with an additional mattress topper for your comfort if they had been made aware of your discomfort
I was pleased to read that the weather was warm and that you were able to spend time outside and enjoy the beautiful grounds we have here and also the local area
Drink costs are set by our head office so I am sorry that we are unable to make any adjustments to the tariff
I very much hope that we are able to welcome you back again very soon and perhaps you can stay in the main house if that is where you prefer to be
Kindest regards
Julie

This was my ninth visit to a Warner’s. each visit has been with around 10 friends. On this occasion we all agreed that this was the worse Warner’s we had ever visited. On the plus side the bedrooms were almost up to their normal standard and the old building was superficially impressive. On the negative side: Many of the staff seemed to have been on a “how to look miserable” training course - no cheery “good morning” from the room cleaners here! The bar staff were general slow and glum looking while the bearded chef in the main dining room could have given Basil Fawlty a run for his money. However the worse thing was that the hotel was generall very grubby: Eating dinner with an absolutely filthy glass dome (complete with large cobwebs)above your head was not particularly pleasant. On that note I was foolish enough to open my bedroom window and had to wash my hands afterwards. To avoid boring readers any further I will just finish by saying we will be voting with our feet and not returning to Warner’s again

I will pass on your comments to the relevant heads of department to share with their teams
Holme Lacy House is a Grade 1 listed Georgian Manor house and has a lot to offer our guests from comfortable rooms many of which have been refurbished as part of an on-going refurbishment programme, to the beautiful award winning gardens which many of our guests thoroughly enjoy and appreciate
I do hope that you will reconsider and visit us or one of the other Warner hotels in the future
Kindest regards
Julie
