Just stayed one night in a quirky attic room. Very comfortable and cosy - had everything we needed. Breakfast was really good too. Would visit again.

We found the Longs Inn whilst looking for a late deal on Ebay but contacted the hotel directly.
After a very pleasant and informative afternoon at nearby Bletchley Park, home of the WW2 codebreakers we made our way to the hotel.

After negotiating the narrow entrance and checking in, we went to explore Woburn (well a couple of the pubs anyway!)

We stayed in room 12 in the courtyard which was very pleasant with a four poster bed and ensuite complete with bath which is a real bonus after walking all day.

We had booked the two day bed, breakfast and evening meal package which at £140 is a fantastic deal.

We booked our table for 7:30 and the restaurant was about half full, we chose a table by the roaring fire which was very welcome on a cold night.

You can choose food to a value of £20 so a full 3 course meal is more than possible. I chose the pate as a starter, roast belly pork for my main, my partner chose moules from the specials board as a starter and steak for her main, she said the moules were nearly enough for a main, we both passed on the sweets as we were full.

After an excellent breakfast the following day we had a full day in London travelling from nearby Milton Keynes on the Virgin Express (39 mins) and so dinner beckoned again, a quick aperetif in the welcoming bar where we chose our selections and were shown to our table by host Matt.

Our choices were, gravadlax of halibut and devilled mushrooms for starters, followed by brisket of beef and crab and crayfish linguine for mains with passion fruit creme brulee and sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for sweets, all of which were superb.

After another superb breakfast we were on our way thouroughly delighted with our stay at the Longs Inn.

Our only niggle was our neighbours returning at 5am and waking us, but that's out of the hotels control and down to courtesy.

We have recommended this excellent deal to our work collegues and one has booked already (finders fee Matt?)

We'll be back for sure

Stayed at the Longs Inn for business for a night. The place from the outside and reception has some great period features. The rooms however could do with being updated, specifically the bathroom. I was given an attic room which upon arrival was freezing, and was told the heating had just been put on. I waited a couple of hours but the room did not warm up. I was transferred to another room in the coach house, which was airier and more spacious, and warmer! The bathroom however specifically the shower head had a great degree of mould on, which wasn’t overly pleasant.

The location was perfect for my business trip, and Woburn is very picturesque, with the Abbey being just down the road, however there is not much more in Woburn, it’s a very small village.

The food at Longs Inn was lovely at dinner and would recommend eating there. The continental breakfast was very basic but was fine as included with the price, a cooked breakfast could be had at extra cost.

I went through booking.com and paid £45, which was reasonable for the place, however if I had paid the £70-90 that is on their website I would not have been happy.

Thank you for your review regarding your stay at Longs Inn. We are always constantly improving the quality of the product we offer, the rooms being a major priority in this respect. The bathroom of the room you have stayed in was always scheduled to be re-tiled, and this is being undertaken next week. With regards to the heating, we were having a few problems with the heating in the main building, this has since been rectified.

We are glad you enjoyed the food, this is testament to the continued effort we put in to upping the quality of the experience of Longs Inn.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to reply, it will always help us to focus and prioritise aspects of our redevelopment.

Kind Regards,

Matt Penfold

Th Magpies Hotel has just changed its name to Longs Inn but i dont think much else has changed. The good points are that the location is good, there is off road parking, the staff are friendly and helpful and we were allowed to check in early which was a great help as we were in Woburn for a wedding. The bad points are that the room was small (the shower cubicle was actually in the room) and we had to share a communal toilet. The bed was comfy but the floorboards creek everywhere. There was no plug socket near the mirror for my wife to use so take an extension lead. The breakfast was simple and pretty poor although the cooked breakfast looked ok if you want to pay extra. Basically it's ok if you just need a place to stay after a wedding.

We are disapointed these guests were not entirely happy.
We have recently re branded and much has changed, I am not sure how these guests have the knowledge to say that nothing has. They booked and paid for our only Standard double room which as described does not have it's own toilet ( it is 3 feet away)
There is a plug socket a couple of feet way from a mirror , you do not need to bring an extension lead , and I have no knowledge of creaking floor boards. All guests who book directly with us have full English Breakfast included in their room rate. These guests must have booked via an agency and would have been told that there is an extra charge if they wanted a cooked breakfast. Most guests therefore do not have to pay extra for breakfast , as they say.
I am sorry they felt the need to be so negative, as the room they used is extreamly popular.
