There is an opportunity at Woburn to have a really special hotel - there are very few alternatives around. Unfortunately the Inn developed by the Woburn Park doesn't quite get there. We stayed a night in a cottage, needing a place to crash from jet lag after seeing the lions. The bathroom was well-designed but not the rest - no internet in the room, small TV, average service. The breakfast was fine but walking from the hotel across the junction to the village is dangerous - surely someone should have thought of a zebra crossing ?

My wife and I stayed here while attending a friend's wedding at the hotel. While the wedding was great and only the bride and groom will know if the hotel delivered what was promised, the experience for us as residents was marred by a number of failings.

For a start, the rooms do not have air-conditioning or even fans. Outside was around 24-26C - not exactly a heatwave - and while the ground floor public areas were cooled by air-con, the rooms were roasting. Our friends had rooms and they all suffered too.

Having built up an uncomfortable sweat from being in the room, a shower was a welcome prospect. Well, with the water pressure so low you couldn't get much more than a drizzle and with variable water temperatures ranging from cold to hot, the shower experience added to the uncomfortable nature of our stay.

Our room was small. There was a minibar, though it was locked and we weren't offered a key when we checked in. Service was mixed. Chambermaids were friendly and cheerful, while a couple of the bar staff could barely manage to speak. One visit to reception interrupted a casual conversation for the staff there and I felt I was intruding by asking a question... Poor show.

The hotel was tidy and well-presented. The breakfast was perfectly acceptable. There's a free car park!

£125 for a sauna-like shoebox of a room and a pathetic shower is not good value and quite unacceptable these days when you can pay £50 at a Premier Travel Inn and get twice the space, air-cond and a power shower.

  • Liked — Location. Woburn is a lovely place.
  • Disliked — I nearly melted in the room...

Stayed for one night as going to a nearby dinner; the hotel is well decorated and in keeping with a country hotel. Helpful reception who were efficient without being officious. Room whilst on the small side was beautifully decorated and fitted with all you could wish for, from good quality toiletries to buttery shortbread biscuits with the ample supplies of tea and coffee.
Breakfast the next day was buffet style (not my favourite) but top notch in quality - best sausages ever!! With plentiful supplies of hot coffee, our leisurely breakfast set us up for the day (and with a fantastic time 'slot' of 3 hours - 7am to 10am, should suit all customers!)
Would highly recommend this hotel

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on vacation, the cottage suites are nice , the regular rooms were very ordinary. The reception was very helpful & efficient but the rest of the hotel appearred to be staffed mainly by temporary employees i.e. students who couldn't be of much assistance. The hotel perhaps is more geared towards the conference/ business traveller rather than tourists given that it is functional but was not overly welcoming.
Regarding the restaraunt the food was ok but the service was simply bad & inhospitable especially from the senior staff .

We stayed on our wedding night here in 2002 and we were not very impressed.
We booked the suite, that we did go to have a look at beforehand, it was very twee, but we had to stay somewhere in Woburn, so thought it would do. To make the evening special we ordered champagne and flowers for the room. At the time I was a florist, and the flowers were terrible, cheap and nasty, the sort you use for funerals, but they totalled about £30.00 on our bill!! The champagne was another cheap option, but again we seemed to pay through the nose for it. The breakfast was a sorry affair, a hot plate buffet (think motorway cafes) and greasy and luke warm.
On the plus side, the night staff were lovely, we sat in the bar drinking with our guests untill 4am, they made us feel welcome and didnt hurry us at all. My Aunt who is disabled had a lovely room in the old converted stables ( I think thats what they were) in fact it was a lot nicer than our room and half the price!!!
Its very close to Woburn Abbey if you are at a function there. But for the £180.00 we paid for the one night, shocking!
Why is this review being written so late after the event??? We have just been invited to a wedding in Woburn, and we need to stay the night, and I really dont want to stay there again, but I think we may have to....maybe I will book the disabled room my Aunt had!

Though it has been a couple of years since I was down in that neck of the woods. I have stayed at the Bedford arms several times and every time has been a delight. Polite, friendly staff, wonderfull accommodation in a quiet, rural village. At the entrance to Woburn Abbey and close to Milton Keynes you have the best of both worlds from this base. If traveling with children, ask for adjoining rooms on the ground floor of the new wing - beautifull decor - what more can I say - excellent.
