Owner description: Woburn Abbey has been the home of the Earls and Dukes of Bedford for nearly 400 years and is now home to the 15th Duke and his family. Alongside the world class collection of art, the house contains the fascinating stories of the people who have shaped the history of both the Abbey and the nation; including the ‘creation ‘ of Afternoon Tea. The Gardens, with a twenty year restoration programme, are of equal splendour with 28 acres of Repton designs to be explored and discovered.Throughout the year Woburn also hosts a series of events including: classic cars rallies, The Woburn Abbey Garden Show, summer theatre, the country fair, vintage airplane rally and autumn deer walks.

Make sure you allocate enough time to see everything so plan your day. In the good weather it is easy to sit outside the Tea Room taking in the sun and fellow visitors and strolling around the gardens (which come included). However, there is plenty to see in the House (you will need the audio guide as items are not marked and described in situ) while it would be easy to miss the World War 1 displays in the North Court. The guidebook is very worthwhile too with fab pictures as a permanent memento of your visit.

We set off by coach from Alton, on a lovely day. The driver had trouble locating coach park----seemed non existant. Drove thro' village--looked charming, then parked and driver phoned them.
We retraced our tyre impressions almost to the safari park and then went to the standard car park where a guide met us and directed our parking. Clearly they do not expect or maybe do not want coaches. After this had a lovely visit, interesting house and delightful parkland.

Dear JPK11
Thank you for your comments regarding your recent visit. We are working on developing our service for coach groups and this year we won the National Coach Tourism Award for Coach Friendly Visitor Attraction. However, we need to make sure that every group and coach reaches us with ease.

We hope to see you again at Woburn.

It all started with a beautiful surprise. Along the winding entrance road, more deer than I have ever seen before, were more moving across the fields, taking time out to swim across the lakes complete with offspring and saunter across the road. The stags, with their magnificent antlers, seemed ready to pose for the record.
Morning coffee at 10.00 in the smart tea house preceded a guided tour of the house scheduled at 11.15. The guide was ready at 11.00 - when the house opens - organised us into a group of 10 and off we went for a near
2 hour guided tour. Knowledgeable, well balanced with all the public areas visited explained.the whole thing was well balanced.
At 1pm we went back to the tea house for our prebooked soup and sandwich lunch. After that, we took a couple of hours to look round the gardens, chat to the gardener before ending up in the Pottery and talking to the potter.
Woburn Abbey is seriously well managed and organised and it shows wherever one goes,
A number of tips - first, have your camera ready after you go through the main entrance road barrier, so you don't miss the deer. Next, go early in
the day, go during the week, don't miss out the abbéy and do get an audio guide if you are on your own.
