Owner description: Woburn Abbey has been the home of the Earls and Dukes of Bedford for nearly 400 years and is now home to the 15th Duke and his family. Alongside the world class collection of art, the house contains the fascinating stories of the people who have shaped the history of both the Abbey and the nation; including the ‘creation ‘ of Afternoon Tea. The Gardens, with a twenty year restoration programme, are of equal splendour with 28 acres of Repton designs to be explored and discovered.Throughout the year Woburn also hosts a series of events including: classic cars rallies, The Woburn Abbey Garden Show, summer theatre, the country fair, vintage airplane rally and autumn deer walks.

We had taken our kids to the safari park a few weeks ago, and taken out a 'passport' for the house (the little boys would have been bored) for adults. Tim & I re-visited today - lovely tour of the house (I had been as a child), gardens - Tim had phoned to book afternoon tea (I don't even drink tea)......put through to security, reception, restaraunt....cut off each time. Tried the web.......nada ....we had a lovely walk through the grounds....they couldn't do afternoon tea - not even busy. We just wanted to relax in the sun. They were pushed as they had 12, and a 2 booked..........well we would have booked if their systems worked. Very disappointing end to a lovely afternoon. Customer service needs addressing. Clearly the Duke doesn't need our £s.

“Disgusting attitude, ruined Sunday afternoon”
Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

As many of the 'terrible' reviews say we had a similar experience whislt walking through the grounds on the public footpaths. The paths are ridiculously laid out in no sensible way so you walk round in a stupidly long loop to get to where you want to be, you have to take a different footpath to get to each place in the park and there is no loop to take in all the key features you would want to see. My partner and I had drifted slighty of a footpath and a member of staff drove up to is very fast and in a dangerous fashion and told us to 'get back on the path' There was no one else in sight (This place is enormous!) he hearded us like sheep onto the footpath and then drove off at an enormous speed. I found this to be hugely dangerous and glad we had no children with us and no wanting to leave the estate we were not allowed to walk down the drive to leave we must use the nonexsistent footpath which take 3 times as long. After this encounter I wanted to leave as fast as possible! We almost ran back into Woburn to get away from the menacing rude staff!! We are local people who will now not return to the estate or Village and wouldnt recommend this to anyone. Also we have friends who had a hideous experience trying to plan a wedding here. The staff are rude, menacing and dont want you there. Dont visit and dont marry here. Go to Waddesdon Manor instead! Will tell friends and family to avoid at all costs!!!

“Just Fine”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

We visited the gardens and deer park as we had complimentary access when staying at the Woburn Hotel. We saw more deer outside the park, than we did when inside on the 2 mile drive to the Abbey. The Abbey Gardens were fine, nothing spectacular, but pretty and relaxing. However I think I would have been disappointed if I had paid the full entrance price.

“Abbey and Gardens”

Beautiful grounds and tea room. It is a bit disappointing that you cant take photos at any point inside the Abbey even with no flash.

“Great Place to Visit!”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

Visited on a Sunday afternoon with a 2 for 1 ticket which made this excellent value for money. We have been here many times before and the house is always very interesting and very well maintained. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and a leisurely stroll around the gardens added to a great day out. The tearoom offers a good choice of food and drink and was a great way to end our visit with an Afternoon Tea sitting in the sunshine.
