Description: The Royal Oak is a traditional pub with a local drinking trade and a heavy emphasis on being a traditional pub in a very informal setting ,serving fresh food in a very casual bar setting rather than gastro style, we are a 16th century thatched cottage pub with an eclectic mix of furniture. So if you like the old fasioned pub but with very good freshly prepared food and you don't mind the odd local popping in for a pint we are the place for you.

We were looking for a bite to eat after visiting Woburn Abbey, the Royal Oak host was friendly and welcoming. We loved the range of beers and the cuisine was excellent and not too expensive.

I agree with the previous reviewer and his comments. Woburn is full of pricey restaurants but this must be the best value in town. Ruddles beer and Carlesberg lager at £2:70 a pint and the best pint of beer I have had for some time. Food for the three of us was freshly cooked and very good value. Fresh fish, super pie and ham egg and chips for three of us with three pints of beer for £34! Brilliant!

This thatched pub has had a chequered track record over the years, including being burnt down! But now it is on the ascendance. The current landlord has been here for over 2 years and you wont get a better pint of real ale anywhere. In recent months he has been joined by a chef from Spain and we had a great dinner on the regular "Friday is fish night". It is on the outskirts of Woburn and the previous cooking was just OK pub food standard. This change of cuisine is not yet well known so the restaurant part of the pub is normally quiet. That is likely to change because the food is fresh, well cooked and prepared, and proportions are very good value - and the service is efficient and friendly. A good experience all round.
