“Its a pleasure to stay here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 September 2010

This was our second vist to Bristol and we didn't hesitate in booking this hotel again and won't in the future. Good central location right outside the train station. Rooms are clean, comfortable and well decorated with good showers in the bathrooms, lovely white flufffy towels. Breakfast is self service and tasty with a good choice so there is something for everyone. Staff are great - if you need anything just ask they will do their best to help. Check-in/check-out is easy and fast.

This is the 3rd time i've stayed at this hotel and have never had any problems.
The staff are friendly and down to earth, they treat you as a valued customer.
The parking is always ok and £6 is reasonable considering what some other hotels in Bristol charge.
The breakfast is basic but good quality and all we needed.
We'll be returning again and will always use this hotel in bristol as it is a very central location and easy to find.

this was our second stay here for the annual balloon fiesta . last year was good , no problems .
this year ? well, i don`t know if they have new staff , are making some cutbacks , or it`s just our bad luck , but it wasn`t exactly the best of experiences .
after a long day out , we had a drink at the bar . the pint of beer being pulled obviously had no gas in it . the barman ignored it & put it on the bar , my husband asked for it to be changed & the guy muttered something about gas then said it was " off " . changing to a bottle , we had our drinks .
the second round was a very different price , upon questioning it we were told that the beer was " on offer " & the till had not been updated ( more of a con ? )
parking was advertised on the website as £4.50 , upon checkout we were charged £6.the same " excuse " was offered as the night before at the bar , " on offer " prices not updated on the computer .
there was a nasty smell when using the bathroom sink , breakfast ( compared to last year ) was very disappointing .
in general , the room was ok , but the change in attitude from staff leaves us looking for a different hotel next year .
oh , and the internet wasn`t working .

Dear kmeWales

Thank you for taking your time to write a review regarding your stay and sharing your experience with fellow travellers.

I would like to sincerely apologise for the poor service you have received during your stay and investigation is taking place and will be dealt with accordingly. Also, further training and coaching will be provided to the team and I would like to reassure you that we strive to deliver great customer service at all times.

There was a change over period on the various websites regarding our car parking charges and they should now have been rectified. Hot breakfast was introduced into all Holiday Inn Express as part of the rebranding and an added value to our guests. I would like to find out more of your disappointment in the breakfast so please do not hesitate to provide your feedback on breakfast to bristol@morethanhotels.com

Many thanks

Directly opposite Temple Meads railway station, although you won't hear it. On a main route in and out of city, I managed to find it first time although being in the wrong lane mean't a slight detour. Check-in was quick and easy. Room was slightly smaller than what you normally expect from this brand but was clean and I had no complaints.

The main annoying part is the parking. Yeah it's in the city centre so don't expect lots.

Hotel uses a council run multi level carpark at the back of the hotel. It has dedicated 20 spaces on the first floor. The cost for this is £6, not £4.50 as listed on the hotel website. Access is gained via an access code which will be given to you during check in and expires at mid-day every day. There is temporary parking bays for you to use during checking in at the rear of hotel. Once those 20 spaces are full (hotel has 96 rooms) you have to use the Park and Pay bays which are located within the same building, but a different section. This will cost £2.50 until 8am. Then you will need to get another ticket to cover the period you are staying during the day. I was told by another guest when getting my ticket a parking attendant checks the cars at 8am to ensure everyone has renewed their tickets.

So don't arrive with a car. And I'm just about to cancel my second night.

Dear sir

I am glad to hear that you had a pleasant stay in our hotel with the exception of the car parking. It is regretable to say that we do not have enough spaces for all hotel guests. However, as mentioned, we do have an agreement with the city council for discounted rate in their car park for our hotel guests.

The smell reported by a previous reviewer is revolting. Impossible not to open the bedroom window and then too much traffic noise to sleep. The helpful staff admit it is a regular, but intermittent, problem caused by "air in the drains". Couldn't wait to check out.

Upon arrival at the hotel you will notice that it is directly opposite the Temple Meads Train Station in Bristol, so it is a good location for any travellers coming into the city that don't have a car.

I was in a car, and there is a car park in the hotel at a cost of £4.50 per night, however be warned that there are limited spaces, some are directly behind the hotel and some are reserved spaces in a multi storey directly behind the hotel. If the spaces are taken then you will be given a pass (and still pay £4.50) and you will be directed to the pay and display car park next to the multi storey. It costs £2.50 extra and that will only last until 8am the next morning, and you have to get out the quick as there is a warden that checks it each morning....

Check in is fine, and the staff are friendly, and the breakfast/eating area is adequate and overlooks to the main road and rail station.

There are 6 floors in total and thankfully there is a lift, and there are non smoking and smoking rooms available.

Rooms are clean and tidy, not that there is a lot in them to make untidy really! One downside is that you have to pay for broadband, unless you purchase the broadband package at a smaller extra cost. However if you use a wireless dongle and are on a top floor, you get an excellent signal!

There was a fire alarm one night that I stayed there (and I was on the 6th floor) because someone had burned some toast on the ground floor - staff weren't to be found outside where everyone was congregating... which was quite disconcerting. They made no effort to advise us it was OK to re-enter they simply milled around the front desk. People outside were a little peeved as it was 10:45 pm and most would have been in bed - as I was, then I had to face 6 floor of stairs as the lift didn't come back on when the alarm stopped - if there had been elderly people on that floor heaven knows how they would have managed - again no sign of the staff doing a thing to help anyone...

I will probably go back to the hotel as it is very convenient for my work, but I will pray that the fire alarm doesn't go off again!

My wife and I stayed at this Hotel for one night; prior to going to see "Deal or No Deal" which was about 10 minutes walk away. The hotel itself is opposite Bristol Temple Meads station, which is a great location, if you are travelling in by train. It is also ok if you are travelling by car, as they do an undercover parking service for £ 4.50 per day. The rooms are clean, and the staff are competent and efficient, the breakfast is included, which comprises of the standard cold and if you want hot you can have scrambled eggs and sausages.

It is about 10 minutes walk into the centre, and it was a Bank Holiday when we were there, so the town was not busy. We were on the fourth floor facing the front of the hotel, and could not hear the busy traffic on the road below. We booked our rooms via Trip Advisor recommendation via 180Hotel at a bargain price of £ 47.00 for the night, nice one TA.

So on the whole it was fine, you know its coming, we had a complaint, the bathroom was clean, but it smelt of drains, it hit you as soon as you went into the room. As we were only there for the night, we did not complain, but simply closed the door to the bathroom, which was ok, until you had to use it. I think it was coming from the shower vent, but can’t be sure.

So to round up, great room, clean, good staff and breakfast, great for parking and a central location, but keep the bathroom door shut if your on the 4th floor.

Mark & Michaela
