Good booking experience, and all staff I encountered actually in the hotel were highly trained and polished and a credit to the hotel.

Very comfy bed and pillows. Clean room. Nice but very small. I asked for and was given a quiet room overlooking the uninspiring central courtyard - I guess one trades a view of harbour etc for a peaceful night. Car park next door convenient and free. I like to walk up stairs rather than take a lift for one or two floors, but failed to find any stairs to walk up; had to ask twice before I understood I had to go outside to get to them! Bizarre!

When starving in the middle of the night I couldn't find the usual book of hotel information and instructions so went down to Reception at 3 am. They couldn't have been nicer. Very good ham sandwich was delivered.

Short stay but thought it was a good city centre hotel with excellent staff who are working hard to please clients.

Dear Susanlemington1,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review,

We are glad you enjoyed the overall experience and the Ham sandwich!!

It is a little unusual to have to leave the building to find the stairwell, it is a 1960's building so we have challenges, the upside to it is the car park is linked to the hotel, so one can park the car on say level three, and just walk with luggage on to the third floor bedrooms, this is of little solace however if you don't have a car with you.

We hope to see you again when back in the city,

Sincerely,

Mark Payne

This was our second visit and we stayed for two nights, Saturday and Sunday. Highlighting the positives - well located, nicely decorated modern rooms, comfortable beds, excellent free parking, pleasant staff. We had a deluxe room overlooking the river. However, we enjoyed Sunday night much more than Saturday. We ate in the River Grille Restaurant and although the staff were friendly and attentive there was obviously a bottleneck in the kitchen resulting in timing issues because we waited a long time to be served and when the meals arrived they were lukewarm (even the plates were cold, which is inexcusable). We don't mind paying £27 for sirloin steak if it is succulent and delicious but this was neither. As we'd waited so long to be served and were hungry, we decided it wasn't worth sending the meals back. Back in our room, there was a live band playing somewhere in the close vicinity which kept us awake until 2 am. Other visitors have commented on the paper thin walls - this is definitely an issue - the noise from the athletic couple next door was in addition to the music outside and unwelcome! On Sunday morning when we arrived at the dining room for breakfast, we were diverted along with some other guests to a rather dismal 'overflow' room at the other end of the hotel for breakfast as there was insufficient room in the dining room. The overflow room was set up with a buffet but was not as appetising as the buffet in the main dining room and we missed out on the pianist and general ambiance. Tea and coffee was served from 'airline' style jugs which was horrible. I asked the waitress for a pot of tea and she looked worried and appeared 10 minutes later with a teapot filled to only one-third full. I think they'd run out of teapots and coffee pots but it's fair to say that the guests in the overflow were treated as 'second class' guests. It would be good if the hotel could invest in sufficient equipment to cope with the high volume of guests on Sunday morning. On Sunday night and Monday morning, there was no problem at all, we had a restful nights sleep and perfect breakfast service on the following morning. For all the reasons stated, I'd be a cautious about booking a return visit on a Saturday night. My rating above relates to Sunday night because if I were to rate Saturday I'd be giving a 'poor' rating.

Room Tip: An interior room would be quieter on a Saturday night but there is no view.

I have stayed at this hotel twice now and each time I find it exceptional. The staff in particular are very nice and could not be more helpful and amenable.
We stayed here this time for two nights to celebrate the renewal of our wedding vows in Bristol Cathedral. We wanted to come back to the hotel later on with our guests and the hotel reserved part of the lounge for us at no charge and they even decorated it for us using our own decs but still a really nice thing to do.
Breakfast is fantastic, good coffee, good fry up buffet and lovely smoked salmon, croissants etc. There is a healthy option too, just don't want to risk it!
The rooms are good, I prefer to pay the extra and have a deluxe double as it has a Nespresso machine and a bigger bed. The location is fantastic, right opposite the watersheds, @Bristol and many other attractions and parking is included next door in the NCP with access directly into the hotel making it easy for luggage etc.
When you work out that staying in the Ibis or Premier Inn etc would cost about £85 a night, plus parking, plus breakfast, it would add up to more than the Bristol which is another class.
Its the Bristol Hotel for us every time when in the area, I would recommend it to anyone. If you do go there and you are not happy I would put a safe bet on that your problem would be rectified immediately with no questions asked. It could do with a pool by the way, but it just does not have one so nothing we can do there. You could always swim in the river outside!

Room Tip: Upgrade to Deluxe..........................ask for a room over looking the river as the view is smas...

We stayed here for a weekend break and we were pleasantly surprised. Our room was very big, and clean. It had the perfect location beside the harbour as we attending a concert in Bristol that night. The breakfast the next morning was great and the location looking out on the harbour also attended to our experience staying at this hotel. We definitely plan on returning!

Eleven of us stayed at the hotel for a reunion. One of the group travelled from Southport and because of problems on the M6 they did not arrive until 7.30pm which was when we should have been sitting down for dinner. The restaurant staff were very accommodating and we eventually sat down at 8.45pm. There are good views from the restaurant which is located on the quay.

The rooms were very well appointed and we were on the sixth floor. Don't expect any views from your room because there are none. You can possibly get a restricted view from rooms on a lower level but I understand you will be looking into trees. There were no noise problems for us but again I understand that it can be a little noisy on the lower levels.

The hotel is located on the waterfront and there is plenty to do in the area. The bus tour starts minutes from the hotel as are boat trips around the docks and up river. The pontoon is just opposite the hotel.

Well done to all the staff at the hotel who looked after us admirably.

Room Tip: Rooms at a higher level are quieter than those on a lower level.

My husband and I have stayed in the Bristol a couple of times and have just spent a night there last weekend to celebrate our Birthdays .We love the next door free parking and the location with direct access to the harbour area where there are lots of bars and restaurants to try, It is an easy walk into the city centre with some great shopping .
when we arrived our room was not ready, the lady on reception was apologetic, suggested we wait around 40 minutes to get the better room so we were given complimentary drinks and a voucher for free cocktails . We booked the sweet treat package and had a really large comfortable room overlooking the harbour with a good bottle of sparkling wine and marshmallows to dip in chocolate while we watched the boats and the people down below. The rooms are very comfortable and spotlessly clean, every one mentions the small bathrooms but how much space to you really need ?All we needed was a lovely hot bath and then out on the town to enjoy ourselves.
We Got up early the next morning and before breakfast walked around the harbour to work up an appetite which takes about an hour . We were rewarded by the sight of an Otter which was pretty unexpected .Breakfast was lovely ,plenty of choice with a man serenading the guests on the piano.
The free parking lasts for the remainder of the day so we made the most of Sunday and did not want to leave.
would recommend Bristol to any one and would always stay at this Hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a harbour view although you will hear some noise from the bars if you have the windows op...

I'll preface this by noting that this is not by any means a "bad" hotel - the average rating is given in context of what I was expecting from this hotel.

The good - service was pretty decent, prices not too bad for an hotel, and the location was really great in the centre of Bristol on the river. Lot's of eating and drinking options around. The room was average I thought - nothing special to write home about; comfortable enough although I couldn't get a good night's sleep on the very soft mattress and pillows.

The ambience of the hotel is somewhat generic, with the bar being more of a vanilla lounge above the restaurant. Catering mainly to business travellers (it seemed, based on the clientele), the restaurant was also a fairly vanilla offering of hotel cuisine. Again, not bad, but nothing extraordinary.

Overall, there isn't really anything to complain about, and the hotel is nice enough - as I say though, given the heritage of the place and location I was expecting more of an old world luxury vibe than the standard "modern unassuming business hotel" vibe, which is why I give it an average rating. Absolutely nothing wrong with a couple of nights here on business (price point seemed pretty good) or on a weekend away, but better options may exist.

Dear Wandering_saffa,

Thank you for your comprehensive review.

We appreciate all your comments.

Overall "underwhelming" is probably not what we set out to have our guests feeling once they leave so I apologise for this.

You had mentioned that "our price point seemed pretty good" and In my opinion that is why we are rated highly in the city on tripadvisor. I think if you take our bedroom prices weighted against our modern product, unrivalled harbour-side location, complimentary WIFI and free car parking we take a lot of beating when looking for somewhere to stay. (I am however biased!!)

Thank you for your feedback, it is most welcome.
