I booked a Deluxe room and paid the resulting premium as it was described on the hotel's website as being larger and had extras such as bathrobes, minibar, 1 King Bed and complimentary newspaper. There were no bathrobes or minibar or complimentary newspaper and the "King Bed" was actually two beds pushed together so inevitably you or your partner ends up sleeping on the join. I complained about the minibar and it appears that the reference to this has now been removed from the website. The room appeared to have been set up for just one guest rahter than two as there was just one coffee cup and one set of towels however we found extra towels in the wardrobe. The heater didn't appear to work either and started blowing cold air out after a few minutes. Also the bathroom had an opaque glass door so that your partner could have a failry clear view of your morning ablutions which lying in bed.
On the upside, the location of the hotel is great and the staff were all very helpfull and the decor is generally very smart and otherwise comfortable.

Room Tip: Don't bother paying a preium for a Deluxe room

Dear Arcturus 195,

Thank you for your review.

We appreciate your comments and will use them to ensure other guests don’t experience the same issues.

To avoid confusion none of our bedrooms have or have had mini bars installed, in addition I am happy to stand over all information pertinent to the hotel on our direct website.

My husband and I stayed here over night on 15th March. Granted we only booked the room the week prior to staying, but paid a premium for the late booking. On checking into the hotel it seemed really quite lovely and a good location for shopping too. However, our bedroom on the 5th floor was possilby the smallest room I've ever stayed in, adding to that our bathroom toilet was placed between two walls - my husband isn't a large framed chap but he commented that he felt wedged between the walls as he sat down to use the toilet. I was quite expecting to have to pull him free.

Room Tip: I would definitely upgrade your room as the basic room is far too small.

Dear Ellen L,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.

We have three different room types (Suite, Deluxe and Superior rooms) and they do vary in size depending on which is booked. I am sorry the room size did not live up to your expectation on this occasion.

I trust the rest of your stay with us was satisfactory,

Sincerely,

I went to uni and spent 8 years living in Bristol so know it well. We went back for a long weekend to shop and I selected this hotel based on location and TA ratings. We were not disappointed.
The location is great for town, right by the waterfront, near shops, bars, restaurants etc.
Additionally this hotel has free parking, worth about £20/day in central Bristol.
The hotel could have been more helpful before my stay, but they did take into account my room request and we got a high floor facing the waterfront.
Lovely clean room, spacious.
Generally a smart feel to the hotel.
Nice staff and good drinks at the bar.
Buffet breakfast yummy and in their nice waterfront restaurant.
Room service could have been better, but often it is not that great in hotels unfortunately.
We visited RiverStation for dinner (just around the corner) which is excellent and I would recommend.
I will go back to this hotel when we return to lovely Bristol.

Dear Jess F,

Thank you leaving us such an excellent review.

I am delighted you choose us when coming back to Bristol.

It is very pleasing to see you enjoyed so many aspects of your stay with breakfast and our complimentary car parking to name a few.

I would also endorse your recommendation of the Riverstation restaurant close by, although the Harbourside views are not as good as our River Grille restaurant it is a very close second!!

We stayed at The Bristol Hotel on Saturday 15th March in celebration of my partner's 40th birthday. We chose the hotel after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor and really, we could not have picked a better hotel!

We booked direct with the hotel and then asked them for some help to get the most out of our first time, overnight stay in Bristol. The reply from General Manager Mark Payne was prompt and full of helpful ideas and, because it was a special celebration, he also offered us a complimentary upgrade on our room!

We arrived around 1.30pm and a member of front of house advised that our room was not ready yet, she advised that we'd been allocated a great room on the 6th floor, but if we wanted to go up now she could offer us an alternative. Being in no hurry to check in, we said we were happy to go with the room that had been allocated and would head off to do some sightseeing. They took our bag from us and stored it, and said they'd give us a call when the room was ready.

As we tucked into some lunch in one of the many nearby eateries we missed the call from the hotel, no matter there's so much to see / experience within a stone's throw of the hotel you forget all about a phone call.

When we arrived back at the hotel around 5pm our bag had already been taken up to our room. We were offered a complimentary newspaper the following morning which, we happily accepted, and headed on up. Well, the room was beautiful, finished to a high standard, spotlessly clean, with bathrobe and slippers waiting on the bed and fabulous views over the harbourside - amazing! There was even a note from Mark in the room that enclosed a voucher for 2 free cocktails at The Shore Bar! How kind!

We had made a dinner reservation at the hotel and again, we weren't disappointed. All of the tables in the Riviera Grille overlook the harbourside which at night is lit up and looks very pretty. We ate from the specials board and the food was gorgeous and reasonably priced. At the end of our meal, too full for desert, our waiter presented us with a complimentary plate of handmade chocolates with "happy birthday" written on in chocolate! It felt for us that the hotel really cared that we had a great stay, nothing was too much trouble.

Having read about the noise from the bars opposite I did wonder how our night's sleep would be and we both slept like babies! The room has a secondary glazing system installed and yes, if open you can hear the music being carried on the wind, but when shut we didn't hear anything. Plus the bed was uber comfortable! We slept through until 7.30am when we plucked our complimentary newspaper from its sleeve on the outer door handle!

Breakfast was another treat, a gentleman played the piano while you were seated promptly and made your choices between the vast array of delicious foods on offer, hot cold, fruit, smoothies, juice, f.e.b. croissants , cereals......... so much choice!

Check out was a relaxed anytime before 12 noon so no need to rush about, and when settling our bill we were given the "free ticket" for the car park which meant that even that was taken care of by the hotel.

If you feel you need a bit of looking after, book into The Bristol Hotel, you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: Our room on the 6th floor offered a peaceful nights sleep, was a good size and had amazing views ove...

We stayed here for the weekend on the Hendricks take me to the bar deal. I had asked for a room with a view and we were on the 6th floor looking of the docks which was excellent. The room was great, we had a Queen Deluxe room (and unlike others have commented we found the room to be of a good size and the bathroom to!). Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice catering for all tastes and excellent attentive staff throughout

The killer for me was the night time noise from the bar below, and the bars opposite the hotel. It seems an odd idea to have a late night bar playing very loud music under a hotel! Surely you have a hotel full of paying guests trying to sleep?

This music, and the music from the surrounding bars in area could be heard until approximately 3am! Both on Friday and Saturday night! As we were on the 6th floor I pity anyone who was nearer ground level. And to put this in perspective my husband is deaf in one ear, and sleeps on his 'good' ear and even he was very aware of the music!

Shame really as the hotel itself was really good - I guess maybe have a room inside and forgo the wonderful view....

Room Tip: If you want a view be prepared for night time noise!

Dear cupidscapers

Thank you for your review.

I am glad you enjoyed our Deluxe room, views and food and Beverage offering within the hotel.

Obviously it is disappointing to hear your sleep was disrupted by noise, all our Deluxe rooms are triple glazed but on this occasion clearly it was not enough.

If returning to Bristol please feel free to get in touch with me directly and I will be happy to personally look after your future reservation and ensure you are allocated a room off the Harbourside.

Sincerely,

We stayed here for a Saturday night in a deluxe room. The location of the hotel is great, with free parking and doors available direct from the car park to the hotel once you have checked in. We were on the 4th floor, with lovely views of the waterfront. The room was a good size, as was the bathroom, and all fixtures and accessories were superb. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and beautifully finished. We did open the windows at night for a while and there was noise from the bars on the waterfront, but once the window was closed we heard nothing. The staff were exceptional, and we had a lovely breakfast with an excellent selection of freshly prepared food in a restaurant with a good view of the harbour. Several years ago after various disappointing larger hotels we opted to try smaller B&Bs and hotels, so staying at The Bristol was a bit of a departure for us. However, it was everything we could have hoped for and more, and we would definitely stay here again without hesitation should be revisit the area.

Dear Alice-Pie

Thank you for your “fabulous” review,

It is refreshing to see we have given you confidence in larger hotels in the city once again.

I am glad our triple glazing in our Deluxe rooms did it’s job and there were no noise issues during your visit.

We look forward to seeing you again when you are back in Bristol.

We have stayed here quite a few times over the past 3 years and always found the staff to be courteous and the check in fine.
Had a superior double room on the 3rd floor which was clean/well appointed but definitely was on the small size - probably described as 'compact'. Room overlooked the street which can get busy but noise is kept to a minimum provided you keep the windows closed.
I would suggest you try and go for a room at the rear of the hotel that overlooks the harbourside - much better view.

Breakfast in the river grille is good - plenty of variety to suit all tastes, from fruit to full English. The 3 different types of sausages were a nice touch. Staff were well organised and attentive.
Hotel is well located by the harbourside area with its numerous attractions/pubs etc and its a short walk from the centre of the city/shopping areas.

Room Tip: Go for 500-600's at the back of the hotel
