“Just fine, good location”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

I stayed at the Bristol Hotel for business, once in April and once in May. This is a perfectly acceptable hotel with no major faults but also nothing outstanding. The location is very convenient for the canal waterfront, restaurants and what appears to be a brand new social and events square still in the middle of being finished off. Reception staff were very pleasant, the entrance foyer is spacious and the bar of an average size. The rooms were a bit dated in decor, a bit late 70s, early 80s but not horrifically offensive. You get free parking in the NCP car park attached to the hotel and that was a bonus. In summary I would certainly stay at the Bristol hotel again for business but not for a special break.

A short break in Bristol and decided to spend two nights here.
Easy to find and a big NCP car park right next door which is free to hotel guests. Good start. Check in was easy and staff very polite and helpful. In fact all staff we met were friendly and helpful. The room, 207, was large and well decorated but not as good as it could have been. The bathroom, whilst very smart and clean, was tiny and strangely some interior designer somewhere thought it was a good idea to have a glass door! It was slightly frosted and during the day OK but put the bathroom light on at night and it didn't leave much to the imagination.
There was also no air con and the bed was past it's best with us each rolling towards the middle.
Finally on the room, the walls are paper thin. Not unusual to hear those in the final throws of lovemaking in a hotel but we could here the warmup chat and the post coitus analysis. If you were in room 205 we agree, you really should see the doctor about your sore calf!
We also ate in the hotel Restaurant and whilst perhaps a separate review I'll comment here. Eat out, there is a load of choice within minutes of the hotel and I suspect all better.
The restaurant was half empty but we were asked to wait in the bar for 40 minutes for them to prepare a table, then when we were seated it was another 45 minutes before our meal arrived and then it was cold. The staff were apologetic and friendly but that was all they would do. Even if the food had arrived quickly and hot it would still have been really poor value.
In summary I would return to the hotel but not to that room and I wouldn't eat in again.

Room Tip: Not 207, check for air con and a decent sized bathroom

We booked this hotel because of its location and the excellent reviews. We were not disappointed and we were particularly impressed with the positive and friendly attitude of the staff, nothing seemed too much trouble. We had booked the 'Bubbles and Berries' package And had requested if possible a water view. We were delighted to find on check in that we had been given a complimentary upgrade which was much appreciated with a water view.

The duty restaurant manager was polite and attentive even going as far as remembering our room number each morning at breakfast.

Would not hesitate to use again when next in the area. Must also add the car parking which was included was a great bonus and next door to the hotel.

I stayed twice at the Bristol Hotel. The hotel is centrally located and is close to major attractions. Very comfortable and appreciated the adjoining parking. The front desk staff is professional, kind and quick in making check-in and check-out. Rooms are spacious, clean and quiet. The breakfast is really good and is served in a spacious and bright hall overlooking the canal. The room service was not very fast but the food was well prepared. Only negative thing: when, for my second stay, I asked for a room (I had not booked) I was offered "the lowest price"; When I pointed out that there were lowest rates on the Internet, I was offered the Internet rate.

Having attended The Bristol in 2013 and them making our made our stay such a pleasure we returned the end of May 2014, to celebrate an anniversary, booking in was very swift and staff very attentive, even though clearly very busy, Sophie on reception never let us down, she recommended several places to visit on our first trip, that we were not disappointed with, again Sophie came up trumps recommending a great place to eat Steak of the art,
Again our room was very pleasant and comfortable over looking the river, we made use of the restaurant for a lovely full English, we look forward to visiting again

Me and my husband recently had our wedding party at the shore bar which is part of the hotel and we couldn't have been happier with the whole experience!! From the upgrade to the suite (which is out of this world!!), to the amazing service we received to the gorgeous food, we really couldn't have asked for anything else and everything was so personal and bespoke. I totally recommend the bristol hotel and shore bar to anyone and thank you to all of the staff for making our wedding party so fantastic!

I stayed at The Bristol Hotel for 3 nights for work in May 2014. I was very impressed with the level of service and quality of the rooms for the price I paid.

The location is excellent, right by the lively waterfront with an array of excellent bars & restaurants, and a short walk to the university, galleries, etc. The hotel is in a 1960s building, which isn't the most beautiful or modern - but the rooms have been nicely updated, and are really spacious & well appointed - tea& coffee tray (with an excellent range of Clipper fairtrade & organic teas), hairdryer, safe iron & ironing boards, lots of cupboard & hanging space. I slept really well, thanks to it being super-quiet and the huge beds. The bathroom was compact but had eveything you need, including a good shower and very good quality toiletries. Service was uniformly excellent: check-in and check-out were very quick and efficient, and all the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful without being overly-formal.

The restaurant / bistro is right on the harbour and is a nice place to relax & watch the action. Breakfast was plentiful and good quality, with a nice array of local produce - but note if it isn't included in the room rate it is a bit pricey at £9.50 for a continental breakfast.

I would absolutely recommend anyone to stay here, and will be booking in again when I return for work in the next few months!
