“Great place to stay in Bristol”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2014

This was a first visit and we chose the DoubleTree for its location. We drove down from Leeds on Friday and the first plus point was parking - right out front. Reception is on the second level and check in proved fast and efficient. After getting settled in our room we came down and asked for directions to the station - a short walk and we road the regular train to Bath - much better than driving and parking. After a similar journey back we got a good night's rest. We had breakfast in the hotel dining room - good choice and excellent service, before heading out for our day in Bristol, the walk into the city centre is no distance at all on level ground. We came back to spend our second night and enjoyed the quiet room, comfortable bed and excellent shower. Check out was efficient and professional, with no surprises. An enjoyable sty and will return when we come back to Bristol, and certainly recommend to our friends.
One potential security concern I noticed, is that rooms on the bedroom floors are accessible directly by lift from the ground floor (bypassing reception) without use of a key - wasn't a problem to us, but maybe some people would find this a bit of a worry.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your recent review and I am pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and that you would recommend our hotel to others. I was delighted to read your check in and check out of the hotel was fast and efficient and that you found the location of the hotel being very close to Temple Meads Train Station was advantageous for you providing quick and easy travel to Bath.

I was also very pleased that you enjoyed your breakfast in our Kiln Restaurant and that you felt there was a 'good choice' of breakfast items and an excellent level of customer service.

Thank you for your comment regarding the front entrance lifts, please be assured we do have CCTV in all areas of the hotel and corridors ensuring the safety of our guests at all times. I can also confirm that we have just installed a central locking system on the front entrance and only guests can enter with the use of their room key card.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel again soon.

Travelling with 2 young children, this seemed like a good compromise in terms of location - not too far a walk from the train station, and not too far from the dockside attractions we wanted to visit (SS Great Britain and M Shed).

Check-in was quick and efficient, despite there being a stag-do group checking in at the same time, and we received our luke warm cookies (although we were told we could have warm ones later if we wanted) and voucher for drinks at the bar given my status with Hilton.

The accessible room on the 5th floor had a good view over St Mary Redcliffe, and was a decent size. The cot which we had asked for was already in the room and made up. The only shame, which is understandable given it is an accessible room, was that there was only a shower and not a bath.

We were woken up at 4AM by (we assume) one of the stag party trying to get into the room opposite. Clearly this isn't the fault of the hotel, but disappointing nevertheless.

We were out on Saturday between 10 and 2, when our toddler had to come back for a sleep. During that time the room had not been refreshed so we ended up not having housekeeping at all during our stay.

Our train was at 16.00 on Sunday and, although initially hesitant, we were given a late check-out so that we could go straight from the hotel to the train station.

We would certainly consider staying here again if we came to Bristol - if there was a rating between average and very good I'd probably award that, but given there isn't an option for good I'll go for very good.

Dear Guest.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review in relation to your recent stay with us. I was pleased to read your comments regarding your check in being 'quick and efficient' and that you particular liked the view from your 5th floor bedroom window which overlooked St Mary Redcliffe church.

I am sorry for any inconvenience that was caused to you and your toddler by your room not being serviced by 2pm. If you stay with us again and you require your room to be serviced at an earlier time we will be more than happy to do this for you, please just request this to one of our Receptionist who will ensure Housekeeping service your room at an earlier time.

We do hope you will come and visit us again when you are next visiting Bristol.

Just a quick one night stay in Bristol. Excellent location. Went on the Friday night deal which meant we had free car parking and a free bottle of wine and a pretty good allowance for dinner. We really couldn't fault this hotel in any way. Really nice experience and would definitely recommend

Good central location to explore city, not far from train station. Car parking good although carpark is on first come first served basis. Staff very welcoming and I found hotel to be spotlessly clean.

Great hotel; modern, well maintained and very helpful staff. The rooms are clean and modern (although a little on the small side). The hotel arranged a cab to the centre of Bristol and it took between five and ten minutes and cost £6 (you can walk but if you're a first time visitor you may find it a little challenging)! Quite easy to locate - particularly if you have a Sat Nav (on the main road into Bristol). I have never used this chain before and, based on this visit, I would definitely consider staying in a DoubleTree Hilton again.

Lovely luxurious hotel with amazing staff. Rang downstairs at 10.30pm requesting toothpaste as we had forgotten and someone was sent up to our room within 2 minutes. Got an amazing rate and can't wait to return in July!

Thank you Hilton for a lovely weekend.

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for a king bedroom, the bed is amazing!
