“Good value break”
Reviewed 3 October 2011

We booked a two night package including dinner on the first night and breakfast both mornings, which was good value. My husband holds a Marriott Gold card which entitles us to room upgrades, lounge access etc and on arrival when we requested the upgrade the guy on reception said that gold status didn't entitle us to this, I think someone from Marriott needs to train their front desk staff a little better!! After a chat we got the upgraded room and lounge access and went off to the room to unpack. We were just about finished with the unpacking when we realised the sliding wardrobe doors were playing up, so called down to get them look at whilst we were out, they did offer us a move, but we declined and they did get someone up to fix the doors while we were out, we have stayed at this hotel on many occasions and always seems to be problems with the wardrobe doors?!?! On the first evening we took dinner in the restaurant which was really good, decent food and decent service. We didn't eat breakfast in the restaurant on either morning preferring to use the facilities and breakfast at the lounge instead, this also meant we could watch the rugby. One slight problem we did encounter this time was the slamming of doors during the night, I don't know whether they've changed the locking mechanisms on the doors as we ourselves had to give the door a bit of persuasion to lock. Luckily the a/c system was working well as it was the very hot October weekend. This is a good solid hotel, with generally friendly staff, comfortable rooms and a great location, just a couple of minutes walk from Cabot's Circus shopping Mall.

I stayed at this hotel for several days recently where I attended a conference. On check-in, it was clear to me that the primary goal of the staff was to secure every penny possible from my wallet. I have never paid as much for internet access. When I asked for a late check-out (after 1pm) I was quickly advised that another 25GBP was required. The last night of my stay, the hotel fire alarms went off 3 times beginning at 1am. The lack of leadership in dealing with "the fire" was apparent. Nobody advised guests that "there was no fire." No effort was made to apologize to guests or keep them advised about the various late night fires. When I discussed my experience with a business colleague, she acted surprised that I did not know "the Marriott way." In sum, greed, repeated false late night fire alarms, and insensitivity to guest comfort made this last stay one of the worst I have ever experienced. If this is the Marriott way (I rarely stay at Marriotts), then I will be working harder to find future lodging elsewhere.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere and spend your $$ where it will go a lot farther and your value as a customer will be...

Good hotel. Excellent location but they charge an arm and a leg for internet access. I can get an entire month of access at home for just 24 hours at the Marriott. Many other hotels in the area don't charge for internet access.

We stayed here for a Saturday night.
The rooms are very spacious, clean and the beds very comfortable. Infact, my sisters room was massive - 2 huge king size beds!
Hairdryer, iron, safe, mini fidge and coffee making facilities.
The staff were friendly, very helpful and accomodating.
Breakfast was very nice - fresh friut, hot porridge, cereals, english breakfast - definately worth booking for b&b - an extra £10 per night (breakfast payable on day is roughly £15 per person).
Loaction is very good, right next to cabot circus shopping and about 10-15 minute walk to the harbourside.
The hotel does not have parking but there is an NCP adjacent to the hotel, and if you hand the ticket to reception to validate, the parking is £12.50 per day rather than £19 payable at NCP machines.
Would definately return.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on top floors to avoid noise from busy roads.

We stayed here for a long weekend, was a very nice hotel, right next door to big shopping centre, very nice comfortable rooms, did have some issues with the parking building next door and the tickets kept getting wiped, but the desk staff were very helpful and sorted it all out of us very quickly and efficiently. Although we didnt use the spa/pool area - it did look very nice. The hotel is within walking distance of Bristol Old town - however there is not a lot to see and do there - so would recommend having a car or taking buses to visit some of the sights further out of the city centre.

If you want corporate efficiency, this is fine. Everything is where it should be, all was clean and provided. Staff universally friendly especially the Scouser on reception and all helpful.
Gym very good provision, pool just for wallowing in, not for swimming. Car park v expensive next to hotel and no discount for residents. Air con noisy.
Come here for efficient, corporate blandness.

We stayed at the hotel before the Bristol half marathon and didn't get the restful night's sleep we needed.

Our room was on the 6th floor. The corridors smelt vaguely of urine. The room was clean and of a decent size. The bathroom was very dated. Our biggest problem with the room was the lack of sound proofing. For a hotel in the city centre, adequate sound proofing is vital. It sounded like the traffic was right outside our door.

In summary, very tired and dated, and nowhere near worth the money. I would recommend the Bristol hotel (the old Jury's Inn).
