“Enjoyable”
Reviewed 3 January 2012

We have stayed at this Marriott Hotel quite a few times over the past couple of years and have enjoyed our stay, this time was no exception.

We had booked a Christmas party at the hotel which again was very good.

Hotel receptionists and managers were incredibly helpful, professional and went out of there way to make sure we had a great stay.

Here's my only criticism of Marriott Hotels in the UK (i love marriott hotels and do travel to the usa a lot and only stay in marriott!! so before anyone thinks I am not being a true reward member of the marriott!!!) and my criticism is the rooms are never 100% clean. What is it with housekeeping? Simple hint if you have big wooden headboards on a bed they get dusty!!

Again I'm going to add this so everyone please make sure rooms are dust free as much as possible and here's why!! If you suffer from allergies then dust will only make things worse!! and why does it make things worse and why should we complain when we see dust in the room ........ dust is made up of someone else's dead skin cells, dust mites and their faeces. And if this dust is visible then it has been collecting for more than a day!! The rooms are supposed to be cleaned daily????

The group we went away with enjoyed themselves and that was great!!

Just enjoyed a single over night break with my wife for our wedding anniversary. Booked online in advance, cost £91 but on arrival we took the option of paying £35 extra for an executive room - we had room 906 that overlooks the Castle Park. Superb room, only downsides were pathetically weak shower and noisy air con which we switched on at night as we were too hot, but then had to switch off as it was too noisy. But overall rooms and hotel are excellent, staff were very friendly and helpful (as usual comprising eastern europeans mainly). Location was ideal for shopping. Was surprisingly quiet in the bar in the evening but bar food was quite good. Nice cooked breakfast in the morning. Ideal car parking immediately adjacent.

Room Tip: Higher floors probably quieter. Rooms overlooking Castle Park provide excellent view/

I have used this hotel for business trips and, occasionally, leisure visits to the Bristol area since the Seventies, when it was a Holiday Inn. It has been a Marriott for many years now, and the standard never varies.
The position of the hotel is extremely good from the point of view of both the city centre shopping, and also the business districts. Parking is easy, in the NCP Multi-Storey right next door, the fabric of the hotel is very well maintained and high class, some might even say luxurious. The bedrooms are spacious and well equipped, Marriott beds have a well deserved (good) reputation, and the bathrooms are very acceptable. Staff are unfailingly courteous and helpful. The restaurant will never win any Michelin stars or AA red rosettes, but what you get is an interesting menu with well prepared food.
For me, the telling factor is that over the 30 odd years that I have been using this hotel, the standard has never varied. It is not expensive, either.
This hotel is Marriott at their best.

Room Tip: This is a city centre hotel, views are irrelevant and all rooms are good

I've stayed here a few times, usually in December for easy access to the shops, and christmas markets both in Bristol and Bath.
I've been lucky to get good deals on dinner bad and breakfast most times, and have always been pleased with the level of service the hotel provides.
the staff are always friendly and willing to help, the rooms are spacious, the food is good quality, and the location is fairly close to shops and train station.

We stayed at the Marriott Bristol city centre for a weekend break in December. The reception staff were very friendly and we were efficiently checked in and given our requests of adjacent rooms and also looking over the park. We had also requested feather free rooms and unlike other hotels this was also done. Our room was very big with 2 double beds and a balcony. Unfortunately we are use to a kingsize bed, so found these beds rather small and rather hard! The pool was lovely and warm and I always enjoy the jacuzzi. Its a shame the changing rooms are so small and its "all in together girls" as there are no modesty curtains like some Marriotts. The breakfast was very good with lots of fresh bacon and eggs, although perhaps not as extensive as some - no mushrooms or a choice of streaky bacon or sausages. The service was excellent and you only had to look up and there was someone ready to do your bidding. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant and again the service was good. The position of the hotel is great for shopping or even just walking along the canal. It can only be about 50 yards or so to the shops of Cabot Circus and there are lots of eateries there too. We have stayed at this hotel many times over the years and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Firstly, I appreciate that the hotel was busy. There were several events taking place, but these really shouldn't have had much impact for a 4 star hotel.
The hotel is in a prime location, very close to Bristol's main shopping area. The rooms are clean, although there are signs of wear and tear in the common areas such as the noisy lifts.
My main fault is with the breakfast service. The waiting staff were particularly lethargic with no one being proactive. Breakfast options were not explained. Tables remained uncleared for long periods of time and when they were, they remained unlaid.
The breakfast choices on offer appeared grudging in comparison to earlier experience, with many options being excluded.
