Went to Cote for part of my wife's 60th birthday celebrations. Last minute booking as our original choice in Clifton had to cancel due to electrical fault which had led to the loss of power. On our arrival we found a complimentary bottle of champers which was a lovely touch and really made up for our disappointment. We had the set menu which offered a limited range but still a reasonable level of choice and more than met our needs. Although busy, staff were attentive and the food was really good and excellent value. Definitely go back.

my husband and I live in Lincolnshire and went to Bristol for a short break, in Clifton there are so many restaurants to choose from, but we decided to try cotes, price wise it was on a par with others in area and the menu looked nice...... what a pure pleasure. not only was the food excellent but the atmosphere was great, warm and inviting, and the service was second to none, so much so we ate there two of our three nights it was that good, a big thank you to Hannah on our first night who was actually from Exeter cotes, and a massive thank you to Kate, one of the manageress's there who's warmth and friendliness shone through. can highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area. only wish we had a cotes near by.

With a strong recommendation from our local friend, we were looking forward to our evening meal after the joys of The Bristol Balloon Fiesta. Firstly, The service by Kate and Lydia, amongst others, was excellent, all of them having a warm, welcoming and helpful attitude.

Our meals, however, fell short of the mark. Why do some restaurants make a separate charge for all-important vegetables? This may be a custom in France in some, only some, restaurants, more often with fish than meat dishes, but we consider it a con in this country, especially at £2.95 per portion. (We chose the inevitable 'frites' and received a very small amount, akin to perhaps half a medium potato). Vegetables are hardly expensive to buy and cook so the mark up must be phenomenal.

My partner's seafood 'parmentier' was very disappointing and lacked any quantity of the definite pieces of filling as described - as a starter it would have been just about acceptable. This cost £11.95 and came with a thin layer of mash in a small dish on a plate. Just that. My friend had the veal (which she found very tasty), no garnish, nothing but the meat on her plate, and I had a 'special', a whole skate with some salad garnish which was very large and delicious if rather oily.

Our greatest irritation, however, concerns the 'optional' service charge - which isn't. Surely 'optional' means that one has a choice? Here, it is added in to the bill already. Annoyingly, we paid a 'tip' before we realised this audacity. This was compounded by an initial bill that belonged to another table putting us off guard. Yes, we should studied the second bill more carefully with regard to the 'service' fiasco....

Shame, given the excellent service. Be in a very good mood to spend money - yes, that's the answer - and you will uenjoy this one.

Great place to go if you like somewhere busy with a good atmosphere and you're with a group of people however, not the place I'd recommend for a romantic meal for two on a weekend- probably fine for a midweek date.
Menu far too limited for me and it doesnt appear to change much. Service is average- not amazing but not terrible either.

Overall would recommend an independent restaurant in Bath over this french inspired chain.
