Our morning spent at SS Great Britain was a real highlight of a short break in Bristol. Since I last visited a few years ago they have opened extra display areas and you can now go under the ship into the dry dock. The way the ship is displayed really brings to life the personal stories of people who worked or travelled on her. The museum part is full of interest and takes you back in time from the rescue of the wreck from the Falkland Islands to when she was first built. Nice snack lunch in the cafe overlooking the harbour. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and volunteers. For people interested in museums and maritime history, there is easily enough for a day.We were there for about 3 hours but ran out of time to see the new 'Being Brunel' exhibition as we had a train to catch - fortunately our tickets are valid for a year and we will definitely be back.

That is a highlight for the city. It is an impressive ship and has an even more so history, really prepare yourself before the visit to fully appreciate what you see.
It starts with a water surface that allows you going under it - coool. The rest of the ship is fascinating. Its exhibits are funny (like the guy on the toilet) or well done, with rats running around (no fear, projected ones only) and well made wax figures.
A very pleasant visit.

BTW, the ticket allows you to return a second time :-).

A great way to spend a few hours. The story of the rescue and restoration of the ship is inspiring for all ages.
You can get lost in the details of the ship, and it is well worth going down into the dry dock.

Great history, beautiful ship, great museum... a place to spend a couple of hours exploring the whole ship and learning about its story.
