Booked this on the strength of its location and nearby car parking. Booking process was not smooth - tried to book online but there was a glitch on the website which made it impossible to get past the request page. When I called the hotel to explain and I asked for the internet rate over the phone, I was told that the system wouldn't allow it & to try again on the internet the next day. Eventually they understood that this made me inclined to find somewhere else to stay & they mysteriously discovered that the internet rate was indeed available over the phone.

Location is very good. NCP car park next door was OK & not too far to walk. Welcome was so-so. We got a corner room on the first floor. Imaginative use of space, nice decor & more than adequate for a couple of nights' stay, apart from the dubious stains on the curtains and the hairdryer which only blew cold air.

Noise from passers by during the night was noticeable but bearable, but the noise from fellow guests in the corridors, slamming doors, shouting etc was really annoying - the walls must be very thin. Maybe we were just unlucky with our timing & room location.

Didn't try the hotel breakfast - loads of great places to eat nearby. Wouldn't stay here again - too much hassle booking it & wouldn't risk the noise again.

My wife and I had decided to have a meal out in Bristol on Friday night, so rather than have a long drive back home we booked ourselves in to the Brigstow for the night. I booked via the hotel's website, which seems to offer better rates than any of the other online hotel sites are able to (Superior room, *including breakfast* for £79... a lot of the other sites don't include breakfast so be careful when booking!).

We've stayed here before so knew exactly what we were getting. Our room this time was identical to the last time with a nice contemporary feel to it...although it did have a slightly musty smell at first (nothing that opening the big sliding window couldn't sort out though). Our room had a view on to the river, looking out on to Welsh Back and the Glass Boat. It's not exactly a noisy location, but this is central Bristol so you do get a bit of noise from time to time.

The bathroom is nicely decorated, but the toiletries seemed lower quality than the last time we stayed... i'd take my own next time if we stay there again. The TV over the bath isn't great, but it's watchable (although you have to watch whatever is on in the bedroom... you can't change the channel in the bathroom).

We dropped by the bar for a drink before going out on Friday and then again on returning from our meal. The barmaid appeared to be on her first night and had no help at all. It took 5 minutes to get a pint of Gem & a glass of wine on the way out and then 10 minutes for a whiskey and a simple cocktail later in the evening... I'm glad it wasn't busy otherwise we'd have been there for hours!

We didn't make it down for breakfast in the morning, even though they serve up until 11am at weekends. We did go on our last vist though and found it to be ok. It's the usual buffet style selection of cooked and continental, although there was a very poor selection of hot food with most of it being unavailable. This may have been a one-off though.

Car parking is easy, with an NCP at the rear of the hotel on Queen Charlotte St. It's about £13 a night, but the hotel are able to do a slight discount if you're in there between 5:30pm and 9:30am. There's obviously cheaper options, but you'll be much further from the hotel and potentially not so secure. They also offer a weekend deal allowing you to come and go as you please all weekend for around £18.

The service in reception was fine, although the girl checking us out could have been a little cheerier!

I'd consider going back again if the price is right, but there are better options around if you can get a good deal.

Thank you for your detailed feedback.

Please note that following recent guest feedback, we now served plated hot breakfast daily instead of the buffet. This was previously only available Monday - Friday but is now available at weekends too

I live in Bristol and was arranging a hen do, so thought the Brigstow would be a perfect hotel to house us for a night, having used it in 2007 for my wedding guests and having been very happy with it at the time. Standards have obviously slipped. We confirmed our 5 twin rooms on arrival and were allocated one of the rooms to store our bags in. As we went toward the lift we realised they were both out of order, and returned rather bemused to the reception to ask if they could offer us a store room on the ground floor as we had 20 bags, and were being expected to hike to the 6th floor for no good reason. The receptionist acted surprised that the lifts were out of order, despite there being a sign on them. Good start. We came back from our day activity and got checked in, only to find that despite confirming the rooms that morning, they thought they would check 4 people into one twin room. The conversation with recpetion to try and rectify this problem was painful to say the least, at no point did they apologise that the hen had walked 6 flights of stairs with her bags for no good reason, and they were completely surly when finally delivering her room key. The rooms themselves were worn around the edges, the windows open a smidge and the air con didn't work so the room was stifling. Breakfast was average, and we had to queue for a table despite there being plenty of free ones in the restaurant area. I won't be using it again, and would recommend you find something that tries a bit harder to please for a nice stay in this lovely city.

Thank you for your feedback.

I apologise that for a short time, both of our lifts were out of order. We did work as quickly as possible to rectify the situation. I am also sorry that our reception team was not responsive to your needs.

Please be assured that I will be reviewing these comments with the team and we will fully take on them on board, to improve our service in future

We live locally but were having a night away from our children. We had recently stayed at the Hotel du Vin in Bristol twice but found it over priced for the experience so decided to try the Brigstow. The room was very pleasant and had a good view of the dockside. There were a few teething problems and we had to move rooms with things not working in our first room. The tv in the bathroom is a gimmick too far, and doesnt work particularly well and there were a few 'must try harders' eg only one bathrobe. I had to keep going back down to reception for bits and bobs, had bought a drink from the bar not given tray and even though I was going back up in the lift with the receptionist he didn't offer to carry it. Staff could do with a bit more training. Overall though pleasant hotel, nice rooms, good location and better value for money than the Hotel du Vin. We had dinner in the Glass Boat restaurant opposite which was very good. Breakfast in the hotel was ok. I would recommend this if you want somewhere not too pricy in a good location to stay in Bristol - dine at the Glass Boat rather than the hotel

We arrived reasonably late after a long day, staff were very friendly and upgraded us to their one and only suite overlooking the harbour for no extra cost. The room was AMAZING, with beautiful views across the harbour. We decided to have breakfast in our room, staff were very accomodating; we requested items which were not on the menu and these were delivered without any problem :) Also, on checking out they were very helpful with our parking charges, giving us a reduced rate.

Overall a very relaxing experience with lovely staff to top it all.

We booked for a Sunday night stay so some of our comments may be different if you stay Fri/Sat.The Hotel is situated in nice locatation with plenty of good restaurants but not many bars.We stayed in a Superior room which is just a normal Premier Inn accomadation which boast of Plasma TV in the bathroom, which was the size of a small bath tile. The staff were ok but not that friendly or helpful. Our biggest frustration is with Late Rooms. We booked the room a week in advance, and made it clear that we wanted a superior room with breakfast included. But when we finished breakfast and were told that breakfast was not included we were not best pleased. When booking with Late Rooms double check what you are paying for is what you get.You need to look after all your customers in these hard times or else your lose them to the better operators.

Stayed here for a family wedding and very good value in our opinion. Lovely room, very comfortable and clean - even a tv in the bathroom! Only minor criticisms were the price of the (not included) breakfast, the fact we had one of two connecting rooms (meaning we could hear a lot of next door's noise) and the slight unhelpfulness of the reception staff when one of our family member's took our room key and forgot to return it to us before retiring to their own room!
Fab location and would def stay in one of these hotels again.
