A pleasant experience

A good location within the Clifton area of the city with easy access to local amenities. The onsite restaurant was excellent both for dinner and breakfast and my room was very comfortable with the additional high quality radio Hi-Fi system an added bonus.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Rodney Hotel as I was sent to Bristol with work. The Hotel was very conveniently located and is surrounded by really nice shops, restaurants and bars which meant that as a female travelling alone I didn't have to venture far from the Hotel for all I needed. The staff were extremely lovely and the room was very well appointed, clean and felt lovely and fresh, I also thought the complimentary fruit was a nice touch and it was so nice to have a powerful hair dryer supplied as well. I managed to park outside which I was grateful for and I actually thought that £6 was reasonable as there is obviously a shortage of parking in the area. I thought for a small independent hotel that obviously has a lot of competition from the bigger brands, the Rodney really represented it self well. I would definitely recommend and will be coming back for more of a leisure visit.

Stayed two nights, and it started badly. The single room I was in was the size of a telephone box and it was filthy. There were stains of various sizes on the carpet, finger prints on the walls in strange places and poorly maintained paintwork. The extractor did not work in the bathroom, so I went to reception and I was "upgraded".
The double room I was moved to was again the smallest I've ever seen. But it was cleaner and better maintained. Car parking is a nightmare. there a few slots outside the hotel and those are available on a first come, first served basis(£6 a night!). if you miss out, as I did, you'll have to park up to a half a mile away! The parking in Clifton is very difficult.
They charge Clifton prices for student standard accommodation.

Room tip: Ask about the decor!!!

I was booked in to the Rodney as I was attending a 5 day course in Clifton and the location suited me. Having never been to Bristol I was unsure of what to expect and I was extremely impressed.
The Hotel had a lovely welcoming feel and the staff in all areas were superb. I had breakfast in the restaurant most mornings and although the continental selection was a little limited the cooked breakfast was amazing.
I also ate in the evening a few times and thought both the standard of the food and the service were excellent.
The room was just what I needed, with huge Georgian windows and a lovely view over the surrounding area it was light and airy and a very comfortable space for me to work in in the evenings. I also really appreciated the complimentary fruit and the large selection of teas.
Overall the Hotel was exactly what I needed and I would highly recommend it to other business guests. I will definitely be returning.

I recently stayed at the Rodney Hotel as my partner was running the Bath half marathon. We wanted to stay in Bristol as neither of us had ever been before and we had heard good things. It had been recommended to me that we stay in Clifton Village and the Rodney Hotel was ideally located. The hotel was really welcoming and friendly and the staff were always on hand with smiles and helpful information about the city to ease our visit.
We stayed in a room on the top floor which was lovely and quiet and well equipped for our short stay. The period features through out the hotel really added to the charm as I find larger chain hotels can be lacking in atmosphere.
We only ate breakfast in the hotel and this was extremely tasty, the waitress was an asset to their team.
We weren't disappointed by Clifton with its abundance of coffee shops and boutiques and were also only a short walk from the city centre for the more serious shopping!

Having stayed in November, returned with my partner for a weekend. Hotel was again warm and welcoming, and neither of us had a problem finding a hotel parking bay outside. When I booked, asking for "what they'd say was their nicest double", I was directed to room 9 on the 1st floor, "Fame". The room was small but had nice features - tall ceilings, sash windows, part of the original coving. Great bedroom, but the bathroom left a lot to be desired. Somehow kitchen fumes seemed to leak into the bathroom on both Friday and Saturday; Sunday wasn't as bad, but I guess that the restaurant wasn't as busy that day. The smell was fairly pungent - a little like cooking fat, and didn't disperse by just leaving the bathroom fan on - it needed the door open and the bedroom window open for over an hour each time to clear the smell. Also, the sink in the bathroom was cracked and had been partially repaired by gluing the piece back in. Not great.. I think that the hotel restaurant was overstretched at breakfast by a large visiting party, and as a consequence, the service was very slow. The food was worth the wait though. I'd still recommend the hotel, but caution against room 9. I'd have mentioned the smell in the bathroom to the hotel, but they never asked what we thought as we checked out...

RodneyManager, Manager at The Rodney Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded 9 March 2011

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent visit to the Rodney Hotel. I am pleased to hear that you are a repeat guest and that you have enjoyed your stays with us.
I do apologize that your recent visit was affected by the smells from the kitchen, I have contacted the company that professionally clean our extractor fans and they will be making an additional visit in the coming days. I hope to have this problem eradicated within the week.
As a repeat guest your feedback is extremely important to us and I do apologize that you weren't asked on check out how your stay had been. I feel it is extremely helpful to receive comments while guests are still in the Hotel as this obviously gives us more opportunity to improve, I will be ensuring reception are always on hand to ask for and receive any feedback.
I have also spoken to the Restaurant manager to ensure that our breakfasts are sufficiently staffed both front and back of house it is obviously extremely important that guests are not made to wait for their food (even if it is worth the wait!)
I hope that you will revisit the Rodney Hotel in the future.
Kind Regards
Amy Allen
