We had a family gathering on the matthew today, it rained the whole time and there was not much shelter. We had agreed to a cream tea and the staff prepared scones and cakes and put them on a table in the rain, when we started eating it we were told off because apparently it wasn’t ready yet.
I showed an interest in the boat itself but the crew were not keen to explain anything about it. I asked if we were allowed below deck and was told I could if I wanted to, nobody showed me the way and the hatch that I could see was covered by netting and didn’t seem to be accessible for passengers.
We pottered around the harbour with no explanation of where we were going and then moored up on the harbour wall, the smokers among us wanted to step off for a cigarette but were held captive until the end of the “journey”(i use the term journey loosely). I feel like we spent more time tied to the harbour wall than we spent moving.
Someone asked for a cup of tea before the cream tea was ready and were denied it rudely. One person asked for a second cup of tea and were respoded to by a crew member in an unpleasant way.

Safety briefing- not really much of one at all.
Nobody pointed out where the toilet was.
There was a lack of seating, it was painful watching my grandmother in her eighties being expected to perch on part of the boat because it was the only dry place for her to sit.
Absolutely shameful, could have been better if the crew were more friendly.More
Joined The Matthew for a cream tea trip and was sorely disappointed by the unfriendly service and terrible value. Many guests on board were made to feel unwelcome and commented on the rude staff. Quite frankly we’re embarrassed to be locals if this is what visitors experience.
we were team building helped by the very knowldgable and friendly staff volunteer staff on board, great experience
A great trip on this local much loved attraction around the harbour side. A different way to see this part of the city. Knowledgeable crew, ease of access, and a delightful, smooth ride. This attraction is available to hire for parties, wedding receptions etc. There are also longer trips available down the River Avon. Fish and Chip trips, and cream tea trips.
Fantastic 4 hours with very knowledgable crew who made the whole trip wonderful. Would definitely do this again. Took our own packed lunch and drinks on board were reasonably priced.
We took our 7 year old grandson for a trip on the Matthew during the first week of the school holidays. We all really enjoyed it, especially the 7yr old who still talks about it constantly. He loved the pantomime- plenty of jokes, costumes, stories and comedy with a couple of baddies to liven things up! it was a very enjoyable hour long trip around the harbour and on one of the hottest days of a very hot summer, was a fun cool way to appreciate both the ship and the lovely scenery.
The staff were all very friendly and informative, the enthusiasm of Captain Barnacle himself was very infectious with adults and children alike enjoying the performance from start to finish.
We fully intend to take a longer trip as soon as we can.
