When visiting Bristol for a gig at Thekla we needed to grab a quick meal before the gig, so we thought that we would play it safe by going to the nearest Wetherspoons, which unfortunately for us was the V-Shed.
It was fairly busy and the only tables available were stacked high with glasses and dirty dishes - that should have been the red flag to alert us to go elsewhere, but time was tight, so we pressed ahead and cleared a table of dishes and decided to order some food.
Now, if you were a recovering alcoholic or someone with a binge eating disorder this would be the perfect place to visit as your chances of getting food or drink are remote.
Congratulations on doing your bit in helping people battle their addictions.
The downstairs bar was woefully understaffed (only two staff who were struggling to cope) and the wait to get served was an eternity.
However hope springs eternal and you cling to the hope that you will be next to get served.
We were now seriously running out of time to even consider going elsewhere, so we wait it out and finally manage to order our meal.
This is where V-Shed throws us another curved ball and against all the odds and our slowly evaporating expectations our meal arrives quickly and is actually (to our surprise) of the usual standard that we get in Wetherspoons establishments.
Top marks for the kitchen staff!
However, it is disappointingly easy to say that this is the worst Wetherspoons I have ever used - and I have visited many the length and breadth of the UK.
The tables were littered with dirty dishes and glasses, the service at the bar was abysmal and there are obviously issues with staffing levels and those that are there are struggling to cope with the amount of work needed to ensure good service.
To top it all, visits to the toilets before leaving were decidedly unpleasant as they were honking of pish and also seemed to indicate more issues with cleaning frequency and staffing levels.
This will not put me off from visiting other Wetherspoons establishments elsewhere as the standard is usually consistent everywhere else, but I can safely say that I would never visit the V-Shed again and would strongly urge other visitors to Bristol not to make the same mistake that we did.

I was interested to read the review on disability discrimination at this venue and wondered if it was by the same door staff I encountered on Saturday night. We were declined entry after being told we had had too much to drink. This was clearly a case of age discrimination as my friend and I, who are both in our late forties, had only had 2 drinks each by then!. Been a patron for many years but sadly will never go back.

Hi there,

Please accept my apologies on behalf of the pub and the door staff for the treatment you received upon arrival at the V-Shed. This was clearly not acceptable and we take issues such as this very seriously. We are currently in discussion with our door staff to investigate this issue further. Please feel free to contact me using the pub's email address (p2473@jdwetherspoon.co.uk) if you are able to provide any more details regarding this incident.
I hope your experience does not dissuade you from visiting us again in the future.

Kind regards,
Andrew Roberts

V-Shed is my go to bar in Bristol! The drinks are super cheap and there is always a DJ in the evenings. The food is average, I definitely recommend this Weatherspoons to anyone who is visiting or living in Bristol.

After drinking in here the previous night, it was an obvious choice for a quick lunch on the Saturday. The speed didn’t disappoint, neither did the food or the efficiency.

For £4.70, I got a soft drink and a wrap, which was virtually at my table within five minutes of sitting down. All cooked well, it was tasty and provided a good meal for us, in a rush to get some quick food from the area.

The duty manager on shift served the food and was very polite and from the outset very good at his job as he was always on the move and talking to guests. Well done.

We choose to come here as near to our hotel and we knew it was Bristols no 1 spoons a and you would get a Cheap and cheerful breakfasts with unlimited tea and coffee with Great riverside views .
The views were the plus point, service was slow and staff non existent .this is a
Busy place even at 10 0clock on a Friday morning ,especially the drinks dispenser by the downstairs bar , when the que was 15 deep i over heard a member of staff mention to another party of 12 wanting drinks there is another machine you can use in the top bar she could have saved 10 minutes of my life if they had told everyone the place had two machines.
Perhaps "mr spoons " the owner of the chain needs to motivate and encourage his staff Together with an up grade this establishment felt grubby , no one was collecting plates and the decor and toilets need a serious make over urgently.
Did pop into two other spoons in Bristol just for drinks and we actually walked out again without purchasing anything as it was the sand story in both the corn street spoons and the one towards Clifton .
spoons in our area north Devon are all top notch you need to get it right in Bristol .
