“Great food, shame about the wait”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

I went here for my dad's birthday meal on a Tuesday night, the staff were friendly and the food was delicious, it was just a shame about the wait, we ordered at 18:10, got our starters at 18:45 and then our first main came out at 19:50, the last main came out at 20:00 meaning the first person had almost finished eating before we all had our meals, we did not stay for desert as we all had work the next day...

“Very good Steak”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

Living social deal on a warm Saturday evening. 2 excellent Sirloin steaks with all the trimmings and a nice glass of red. Not sure I would pay the full price though.Everything well cooked. The restaurant itself is still quite bleak & dreary lacking atmosphere.

“A Fine Restaurant Disguised as a Pub!”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Wow! Before yesterday, the last time I was in the Beehive was over 20 years ago and I am glad to say it has changed a lot!
The atmosphere was very relaxed and kid-friendly and the food was very high quality. The rice pudding in particular was heavenly - my wife ordered it for me by mistake and it was the best mistake she could have made! The kids' meals were great too; although the menu does not make it clear, the meals (chicken strips, fishfingers etc) are homemade and a light year away from the usual rubbish that pubs offer for kids.
Service was a little slow but with so much attention given to the quality of the food it is clear to see why. If you go with kids, just make sure to take something to keep them entertained!
The beer garden was nice enough but could have done with a little more than a broken swing to entertain the kids - something along the lines of a plastic fort would have been ideal.

“Very disappointed”
Reviewed 22 May 2014

We've been meaning to visit The Beehive for a while, having heard it has had a change of management and a makeover, but we were very disappointed. We didn't go into the bar side so can only comment on the restaurant area and our experience there.
Positives were that the decor and atmosphere were good, they had some good draught lagers (peroni and kozel) and the menu was interesting and reasonably varied.
Unfortunately the negatives outweighed this. The food is overpriced (£6.95 for a starter of 3 "medallions" of goats cheese that were the size of a 50p) and although some parts of our meal were tasty, others were mediocre at best. The service is really quite slow and I would have been happy to have given my honest response to how I found my meal if I had been asked even once! Also, on a separate note, the toilets were really quite horrible and unclean, which was a big disappointment after the well presented restaurant area and quite off putting.
It's quite possible that if you just wanted a drink or a bar snack, then The Beehive would be great, but we won't be returning for dinner in a hurry.
