“Delicious.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2014 via mobile

Second time I've been; first time since they moved into the new (stylish, laid-back, enjoyable) premises.

The veggie burgher was astonishingly delicious, as was the flapjack. The potato chips were extraordinarily crunchy and the home-made lemonade was lovely.

Highly recommended to vegans and omnivores alike.

“1st time vegan lunch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2014 via mobile

After stumbling round stokes croft on a mornings walking tour I stumbled into cafe kino without even realising it was a vegan cafe. The food was fresh tasty and promptly served with some lovely rose lemonade.though £17 for lunch for 2 for I thought I was a tad expensive for bristol.

“Grubby, poor service and mediocre wine”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 December 2013

This was the first time I'd been to Cafe Kino and I doubt I'll go again.

The whole place looked shabby and downtrodden. Odd chairs and tables scattered about the place, covered with used crockery, glasses and food debris. The lighting was bright and harsh and in no way made you want to relax or feel at home in the venue.

I wanted a glass of wine. There was no wine list, just a mention of 'wine' on the blackboard hanging up by the tills. I ordered a glass of dry white wine which was handed to me in a tumbler. Quite why a cafe, vegan or not, feels the need to serve wine in a tumbler, rather than a proper wine glass, is beyond me.

The queue at the till was long and slow, with just one person working (the other looked harassed in the kitchen). No-one cleared the leftover plates or glasses from the table I found, despite being there for two hours in total. I saw no evidence of any cleaning taking place of any of the other tables either.

The toilet was grubby (as was the sink).

I didn't have any food (had gone there only for drinks) so can't comment on the menu.

I understand that the cafe is run as a not-for-profit cooperative. Whilst admirable, surely it would make more sense for the cafe to up the ante, make the place more enticing and clean, make customers feel valued and therefore generate more money for the ethical purposes it wishes to support. Instead, the whole place felt like no-one cared or made an effort. It's a pity, as the idea of a vegan cafe is a good one.

“Slow and grubby”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2013

Very slow service, miserable staff, average food. Would probably pop over the road for a better environment. Needs to pull its socks up if its going to continue to compete with the bristolian or the newly done hooper house. Shame because I have always enjoyed it in the past
