“Comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast, generally good service”
Reviewed 13 January 2012

The Hotel du Vin is close to the city centre but can be a little hard to find if you haven't been there before. There is very limited metered parking outside but you're better off parking in the Rupert St multistory which is virtually opposite.

The hotel itself is characterful and the rooms are very nice, especially the suites. The standard rooms do not, in my opinion, offer good value for money. They're too small and can be noisy. The beds are very comfortable, the rooms are clean and well equipped with Nespresso machines, iPod players, quality toiletries etc.

Reception/check in is efficient and friendly although I would always suggest calling the hotel to discuss your room requirements rather than booking online because the online booking system doesn't cater for specific requirements. This hotel isn't cheap so it's worth being clear with them about your expectations when it comes to room size and amenities.

Breakfast is really good (my favourite is the Eggs Benedict) and there is a wide selection of cooked and cold food to choose from. I was less impressed with the menu and service at dinner. The menu was perhaps a bit limited and the service was rather disinterested.

Overall the hotel has a good ambience and helpful staff. I stay in hotels all of the time so I tend to be picky, however, I'm always happy to return to the Hotel du Vin.

Room Tip: Avoid standard rooms and discuss your requirements directly with the hotel rather than booking onlin...

Superb staff, spacious room that oozes quality , faultless food, really looking forward to my return trip... This hotel does what many claim to do but don't quite achieve.

Room Tip: Book this don't even think of going elsewhere in Bristol

We had a lovely relaxing stay at the hotel. Nice comfortable room in the eaves and a fantastic bathroom. The Bistro provided a lovely meal as ever and breakfast was very good. My only observation/criticism was the lack of pillow menu. A hotel of this standard should offer a range of pillows to suit individual customers. Apart from that, all in all it was a lovely stay.

What a great place to stay! Super high quality establishment with polite, helpful staff - this all made for a relaxing overnight stay in the centre of Bristol.

The room was really good, if slightly odd in proportion with the bathroom almost as big as the sleeping area.

The sleeping area had high quality furnishings and modern decor in an old-style building - part of the character. Big comfy bed with plenty of pillows, desk, large wardrobe and leather chair. The TV had a DVD player connected, but the normal programme transmission was watchable but of poor quality - a minor point but should be checked and fixed.

The bathroom had a huge walk-in, walk-out monsoon shower, roll top bath, loo and wash basin. A heated towel rail too.

Dinner and breakfast were high quality with a good speed of service by attentive staff.

Checkout was completed with the minimum of fuss with the bill accurate.

Parking - this doesn't reflect on the hotel but it is a factor. Outside the hotel there are 6 or so free parking spaces adjacent to 6 or so 'pay & display' spaces. When I got there, no free spaces so pay it was. Read the display instructions carefully. Before 6pm is a 2 hour max stay; after 6pm the time limit is to 8am, then the restricted time kicks in again.....and you have to be up smartish to buy another ticket. The other option is to use other local car parks.

All in all, a great hotel to stay if you visit Bristol.

Room Tip: Each room is unique so speak with the Reception staff and explain you needs.

Having stayed in the city countless times, I can say with certainty this is the best hotel from a luxury view point. No it doesn't have a pool - but it does have a chick and sophisticated atmosphere that is unmatched. I stayed in the Harvey suite which has a private outside roof terrace big enough for 20 people and no where in bristol has that!! With one of the biggest bathrooms - with large double ended roll top bath and huge shower, you will ever see. Book this room if you want to impress!! Or if you want to host a pre drinks party like I did.

I've stayed at HDV Bristol several times for work by myself - but took my wife here for the night in November.
We were in the 'Harveys Suite' which was fantastic (but pricey) - and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The bar was great for pre-dinner cocktails & had a wonderful ambience. Breakfast was delicious!
Only negative with this place is the parking - the hotel has extremely limited spaces & if there are none you need to go to the mult-story up the road.
