The Hotel du Vin is close to the city centre but can be a little hard to find if you haven't been there before. There is very limited metered parking outside but you're better off parking in the Rupert St multistory which is virtually opposite.
The hotel itself is characterful and the rooms are very nice, especially the suites. The standard rooms do not, in my opinion, offer good value for money. They're too small and can be noisy. The beds are very comfortable, the rooms are clean and well equipped with Nespresso machines, iPod players, quality toiletries etc.
Reception/check in is efficient and friendly although I would always suggest calling the hotel to discuss your room requirements rather than booking online because the online booking system doesn't cater for specific requirements. This hotel isn't cheap so it's worth being clear with them about your expectations when it comes to room size and amenities.
Breakfast is really good (my favourite is the Eggs Benedict) and there is a wide selection of cooked and cold food to choose from. I was less impressed with the menu and service at dinner. The menu was perhaps a bit limited and the service was rather disinterested.
Overall the hotel has a good ambience and helpful staff. I stay in hotels all of the time so I tend to be picky, however, I'm always happy to return to the Hotel du Vin.
