Spent one night at the HDV for our 30th anniversary. Very good location for wandering around Bristol but it was tempting to stay in the room, having paid so much for it. We had a loft room and managed to resist the temptation to jump off the balcony on to the bed. Everything reeked quality - couldn't fault it. We didn't pre-book the bistro, not expecting it to be full, which it was. Fortunately they squeezed us into the humidor - our own private room, with perfectly judged service - friendly, helpful and not in the least bit stuffy (which I did sort of expect when, having been offered the services of the Sommelier, I declined and just chose the house red). Breakfast was a monster - we only had continental but after six hours of walking later I was struggling to work up a hunger.

Didn't let us down, huge room, huge bathroom and the room service breakfast was great. Managed to get a good rate as it was early in the week. The service is friendly and efficient. They only have 8 parking spaces though, otherwise you have to park in a multistory carpark. There are no real views, as the hotel is located alongside a busy city centre road, but the rooms are really relaxing. We stayed in a Studio Suite.

stayed here many times since it opened and its still as fabulous and quirky as ever
we had a loft suite this time for 2 nights bedroom downstair and with a separate toilet and then upstairs ( which are very narrow ) to the fabulous gallery style bathroom with the big roll top bath and the wet room style shower which is big enough for a orgy ( should you wish to have one )
The bathroom in the hotel du vin are which keeps me coming back they are fabulous and pretty much the same in all the hotels that they own i believe
We have stayed in various rooms in the hotel over the years and they have all been amazing even the standard rooms and studio rooms are big and spacious with excellent bathrooms

We didn't eat or have room service so cant comment about that but the beds are amazing huge and comfortable

the different lounges and bars & the library are fab its like going to someones very posh and grand home, very elegant and comfortable sofas and the entrance to the hotel is impressive with the staircase that come down into the reception area
Its the sort of place that i would like to have a wedding or a wedding reception at as its so quirky and yet modern but lot of lovely places for amazing photos

its not a massive hotel i think maybe 40 rooms and its a bit of maze as when we went one of the lifts went working so we kept getting lost on our way in and out but that didn't stop us having a great time

I would recommend this for anyone who wants a special treat or romantic break but equally its just as good for business stays

Room Tip: go for the studio rooms as they are slightly bigger than the standard rooms

Stayed at the Hotel Du Vin last weekend when dropping off our son at Uni. We had terrible trouble finding a decent hotel that weekend as it turned out the the Bristol marathon was running on the Sunday. Parking can be tricky there. There are a few meters out front, but otherwise you'll need to park in the NCP down the road.

We'd stayed at the HDV before and knew it was good quality but expensive. They often send through offers but as usual we found it only applied at the weekend if staying two nights, so it was over £200 for a superior room. Not cheap.

On check in we were told that the restaurant was fully booked - they seemed to have several large parties there. Not a problem for us as we were going to a do with friends, but anyone hoping to have eaten there would have been disappointed.

On the upside the restaurant breakfast was great.

The room was lovely, incredibly spacious, with two leather easy chairs, flat screen TV and a six foot wide bed.
There was plenty of wardrobe space but one criticism is that the room was incredibly dark. There was a lamp on each bedside, a lamp on the desk and what must be the lowest wattage bulb I have ever seen by the door. All seemed to be energy savers. There were no overhead lights. I could actually see the filament, it glowed so little! We did ask for an extra light if they had it, but nothing turned up.

The bathroom had a bath and a walk through shower behind it a glass panel. (Ladies, note that there is no shower attachment to wash your hair, it's a fixed head shower above you only.)

As as result we could barely see in the wardrobe (which is painted black!) and my wife left her pashmina there. We noticed the loss while still in Bristol but couldn't get back to the hotel by car because of the marathon. So we called the hotel within an hour of leaving and they said they'd found it and would post it. I'd like to give a happy ending to this but over a week later it still hasn't turned up, and when we called again they said they had no record. Not so good.

Room Tip: Even rooms at the front of the hotel are fairly quiet so no worries. The rooms and corridors are ve...

Stayed in the Hotel du Vin with my wife for business trip . We were given a parking slot outside the hotel (mind you we arrived just before lunch). We had a terrific room / suite: the bedroom was huge, the bathroom amazing and the walk through shower fantastic. The evening was topped off by a splendid meal in the restuarant.

Two minor Criticisms: We had to cross check and adjust the bill to ensure we got the rates for whcih we were quoted and that everything had been properly accounted for. However that was sorted out pleasantly. The room was darkish and could have been better lit.

Notwithstanding a splendid business hotel and an experience enjoyed.

Only stayed one night this trip but we received excellent service. The restaurant is excellent, and the ambience is good. The bedroom.bathroom was very good. Only one niggle - the low lighting level helps to create the great atmosphere, especially in the restaurant, but there is a clear need for additional optional lighting in the bedroom and especially the bathroom. (Contact lens wearers might need to take a torch!) However the room is very good and the bed is superbly comfortable, so would still give 5 stars and recommend to anyone.

The hotel is extremely well situated for central Bristol. Despite being close to the road we could hear no traffic noise (although our room overlooked the central courtyard where two other guests insisted on talking noisily until 2am).
ted in talking noisily until nearly 2 am.)

I have always viewed Hotel du Vin as that little bit special and it was my first choice for a one night business stay in Bristol. Now, I'm changing my mind.

Where to start? The room was clearly well presented but I couldn't really see it, having to grope around in near darkness at 4pm on an early autumn afternoon. The bedroom walls were wafer thin - I don't want to hear next door's conversation about their evening clearly at 11:30pm at night - and they weren't being particularly loud. Added to this was a noisy courtyard three floors below my room. Wax earplugs finally ensured some sleep.

The room service food was average and the wine being promoted in the room thin and uninspiring. Breakfast looked appetising on the menu but delivered weak coffee, watery poached eggs and general disappointment all round. All of this for well above average prices.

On the plus side, the bathroom was stunning and the public areas are very attractive - it wouldn't take much to improve the experience (at least from the catering standpoint).

Maybe I should just have a glass of wine and a take away in my room next time? (if there is one)

Room Tip: I asked for a quiet room - I'm not sure that one exists based on my experience.
