“Perfect boutique hotel in lovely city”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

I left it to my wife to choose a hotel in Bristol for our short stay and all she could say was "I hope you like it"

Well, for an elegant and tasteful conversion of a piece of old industrial Bristol, this place is exquisite. You enter a quirky trapezoidal shaped courtyard from the cobbled street and you are transferred into the seventeenth century with a quiet fountain trickling away in the centre. You then notice the modern entrance into the lobby, which used to be the boiler house of this old sugar factory. The reception was friendly, courteous and efficient and even though we were very late arriving, the bar was still open and managed to find us a scrumptious cheese board and a wonderful bottle of wine. The ambience of the bar area is calm, quirky and utterly relaxing, the staff are fun and friendly and we wound down delightfully after a busy day and I slept like a babe in the luxurious bed.

The rooms are odd shapes, which adds to the charm and the ones on the inside overlooking the courtyard are probably more 'timeless' than the ones overlooking the street (I checked the next morning). Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of fruit, cereals and pastries/breads but cooked items are prepared to order. My 'Eggs Benedict' were perfection.

As we were not leaving the city until late afternoon they were happy to look after our luggage for the day and continued to treat us as patrons after we had checked out.

We loved this little hotel and will probably go back, if in Bristol again. I leave the final comment to the taxi driver on our way to the station when we asked him which he thought the best hotel in Bristol, he thought for a moment and said with confidence "Yes, definitely the one you were at, The Hotel du Vin" Well, he's a taxi driver, he should know!

Room Tip: Those overlooking the courtyard

Reading others' reviews, I'm wondering if we stayed at the same place! Our experience was so different. It started with trying to reserve a room - 7mins of being passed between various operators before finally getting through to a real person. Positives: lovely, quiet, spacious and clean room; good beds, pillows, and shower. Ditto that of my friend who was getting married at the hotel, although her minibar chocolate buttons were half used by a previous guest! The events organiser was excellent and everything ran smoothly. The food was great for a large catered event, and the waiting staff professional and friendly. I would happily recommend them for that. All our problems were with the actual hotel stay: On arrivial, Reception were confused about payment for our room despite this having been organised in advance as part of the wedding party, so we were advised 3 different prices in the next 30mins. This took until next morning to sort out. Room Service forgot part of our order (a side of chips. It's not rocket science). There was a half-marathon happening in Bristol the next day, but no one could advise us whether this would pose problems on getting our car out of the car park or indeed getting out of the city. Another guest staying at another hotel eventually helped us on that one. On checking out, we were overcharged for our room service (they had no access to a room service menu at Reception, so who knows how they're meant to operate!) We had left our car keys at the Reception desk on check in; they phoned AFTER we'd checked out to inform us of this, a whole 24hrs later. All the staff were VERY nice, but the actual service fell short. For the market this chain is aspiring to operate in, this just isn't good enough. I definitely won't bother again.

Great deal for a Sunday night at the end of a great weekend in Bristol. Great value special deal giving access to a great space with everything you expect from a top class hotel. Despite being very close to the centre of town, a quiet & peaceful haven. Well worth it.

I accompanied my sister on a trip to Bristol. She recommended that we stay at The Hotel du Vin as she had been before and found it excellent.
It was not 'on the main drag' so to speak and the arrival does not reflect the atmosphere to be found within.
I believe it is a converted sugar factory and some of the spaces are unusual but the overall feel of the hotel is delightful.
The large bar area is comfortable and leads to a wonderful paneled dining room decorated in warm yellow with green wine bottles cleverly placed on the high window sills so that the light coming in has an almost 'garden' feel to it.

We had cocktails in the bar at lunchtime and were looked after by Tommy from Spain who was welcoming and very charming.
Before the highlight of our stay, the evening meal, which we were very much looking forward to, we had drinks in the bar (yes again! we were on holiday) with the friends who had joined us. This time the friendly Nathan from Manchester mixed us very good cocktails and made us feel that he wanted everything to be perfect.
Eventually we were lead in to dinner and throughout George was on hand to attend to our every need and we really felt we had become 'royalty' for the evening.
All agreed that the food was delicious. We had some help choosing our wine from the sommelier who was helpful in a really knowledgeable way without being in any way patronizing as some can be. He chose a wonderful Cotes de Rhone for us that slipped down like velvet and was perfect with all our dishes.

Unlike the cinderella story nothing changed overnight and after a good sleep in very comfy beds we came down to breakfast, again in the lovely yellow dining room and this was also
excellent.
We are very much looking forward to seeing the lovely staff and staying at H du V next time we meet in Bristol.

Took my boyfriend here for his birthday as we stayed in the Birmingham hotel du vin before and highly rated it. I booked a suite which was expectedly fairly expensive but well worth every penny! :) the room and bathroom were huge! And exceptionally clean. We experienced excellent service from the staff who were all very friendly and helpful...all in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Can't wait to go back! :)

My partner took me to the Hotel du Vin in Bristol for a couple of nights to celebrate my birthday. We've stayed at a few Hotel du Vins over the years and this one didn't disappoint. Our room was fabulous - a split level suite with the bathroom on the mezzanine floor. The bed was exceptionally comfy and the Nespresso coffee machine a nice addition. The bath and shower products are good quality, come in very generous containers and were replaced each day of our stay. The bar and restaurant really couldn't be faulted. We hadn't booked to eat on the night of our arrival but were readily accommodated, even though we didn't to the hotel until well past 9pm. They have an excellent range of wines available by the glass and staff in both venues were friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Though not in the best part of town, the hotel is well located for getting around and we easily walked up to Clifton Bridge and down to the redeveloped harbour side. If I could make one improvement, it would be to provide complimentary water in the bedrooms and offer a cooked breakfast as part of the B&B rate.

Room Tip: It is worth paying extra for one of the suites - go for one facing in to the courtyard for a peacefu...
