I wanted to like this hotel, but unfortunately would not recommend it.
The location is on a main road, opposite a building site. The windows are well glazed so street noise wasn't a problem, but when Bristol has so many beautiful, quiet streets it's a shame not to be staying on one of them.
We stayed in the Courvoisier suite which was large and spacious, although very dark. The dark, airline lounge style carpet didn't help. The bed was large and very comfortable, but pillows were too thin. The bathroom was huge, with a wonderful rain shower. However the wooden toilet seat was chipped and the paint on it was flaking. A minor complaint, but at £220 a night it shouldn't be like that.
The main issue, however, was noise. We could hear the bass from a bar upstairs until 23.30. I appreciate it was Saturday night and that's not particularly late, but this is a hotel and you are primarily there to sleep. In addition, in the morning the radio from upstairs was clearly audible from 07.30 - on a Sunday morning. Don't know if it was coming from a room or a hotel facility, but it wasn't great.
When you're charging rates like this your rooms need to be suitably sound proofed that you can't hear the function rooms at any time in the evening, or radios playing first thing in the morning. People are there to sleep, and an early night or a lie in should be possible.
