Description: Famous for Thalis but you'll find classic Indian snacks, coffee and cakes on the menu too. Quirky decor, great atmosphere, free Wifi, kids welcome. Award-winning Tiffin Takeaway scheme. Great for meetings and business lunches; contact us about catering for your party or celebration.Located in the centre of Easton, this is one of four Thali Cafes in Bristol. I have just found this Thali Cafe again after a many years as I have just moved my office nearby. The food is fab and such good value. Staff seem really friendly and they do a wicked Dosa. My favorite drink is Nimbu-Pani which is a zesty homemade sweet lime soda and only £1.95.

Has a take out service as well for a Thali for Two and you can take your own tiffin, or purchase one there.

Kid friendly and they have special meals for your children.

The food is delicious and the staff is always nice and friendly. A must see if you live/visit Bristol, we are never disappointed! The vegetarian curry options are amazing!

We've been using and enjoying the laidback, friendly vibe of the Thali Cafe for five years. it's been part of our and our grand-kids' 'Bristol'experience' and we've enjoyed the fresh, clean flavours, modestly presented and priced (especially the lunchtime dosas), as well as the occasional takeout using the Thali tiffin tins.
So it was a real disappointment to eat there yesterday lunchtime, when the music (not Asian) was so loud that conversations were drowned, waiting staff didn't come to tables - and the food was way below the standard we had come to enjoy. Tables were unclean and even the laminated menu cards were soiled. The family focus - toys and books for all ages to enjoy - looked neglected and unrefreshed.Even the prices are no longer competitive for this standard of food and service.
This wasn't the first of our recent poor experiences at the Thali. It's such a shame: while it may still be OK for a drop of chai (where else on St Marks Lane can you stop off in the quiet times for a sit-down and a warm drink?), we won't be in a hurry to use the Thali again.
It would not take much to bring it back up to its former standard - just a bit of thought and careful management would restore it to its former level of good food, service and atmosphere - and capture our goodwill and custom.
Come on Jim P.. why neglect the flagship of your growing fleet?

Thanks for taking the time to review the Thali in Easton and for your patronage over the last five years. It's wonderful that we have been part of your experience of visiting Bristol and we're just so sorry that your last visit wasn't up to the standard that you have come to expect. It is so useful for us to hear your feedback and we will use it to identify where we can improve things. I really hope that you and your family will return to the Cafe to give us a chance to redeem ourselves and to show that your less than satisfactory lunch trip was a one off blip in your continued enjoyment of the Thali Cafe. Kind regards, The Thali Cafe Team.

Absolutely loved the food at Thali Cafe. This was the most authentic food we have ever had in UK. The flavors and the spices were to the perfection. The restaurant is also perfectly located with a nice ambience which feels like a blend of a cafe and a restaurant. We were a group
of friends who visited the restaurant and everyone enjoyed whatever each one had ordered. Definitely recommend Thali Cafe for authentic Indian food.

We eat here at least twice a month and are never disappointed with the Thali experience. The place is welcoming and relaxed, with sofas and coffee tables on one side and mix-and-match tables and chairs on the other. People use the lounge area in many ways: waiting for their Tiffin takeaway, meeting friends for a cuppa, reading the papers, knitting... I heard that one group holds their Spanish class around those coffee tables.

The staff are always friendly and although I agree with a previous reviewer that the service is 'laid back', that seems to be more of a positive than a negative in this café bar.

The food is always delicious. The reason it is served on a 'tin plate' (as in one review below) is that the steel platter, with its different compartments for different elements of the meal, is the 'thali', not the food. Some of the things we appreciate about the food are the subtlety of the aromatic flavours, the freshness of the ingredients, the opportunity - so rare when eating out - to choose low-fat dishes, and the balance of the food on the platter. No need to order a side salad.

Our bill is usually about £33 for a shared starter, 2 thali meals and a bottle of organic wine.

Sometimes we get a takeaway in our Tiffin [those stacking insulated stainless steel food transporters]. There's enough for an evening meal for two, and it's a real bargain. I could go on, but you must have got the idea by now. Try it. Friends have quailed at the location, but we find the area to be friendly and safe in the early evening. We'd be lost without the Thali Café.

Thanks for your review. We're so glad that you enjoy visiting the Thali Cafe in Easton. We do try hard to become part of the community that our Cafe's exist within and we are always happy to see locals using the space for get-togethers, club-meets etc while they enjoy their thalis/coffees - it all adds to the ambience! Musicians and artists are also welcome to contact us to see how we can help them by displaying art or providing a venue in the form of our Sunday Music Sessions. Kind regards, The Thali Cafe Team.
