Owner description: St James Priory is the oldest church in Bristol dating from 1129.Originally a Benedictine Priory it has survived the ravages of change, the Reformation, wars and time. St James still survives as a jewel in the crown of Bristol. Although hidden away it is a haven of peace and serenity in the middle of the city centre. Between 2009 and 2011the church was completely renovated and restored following a grant of £3.2 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund. A warm, friendly and relaxing cafe adjoins the Church at the east end.

A lovely place. The recent regeneration is great and the candles make the feeling inside really soothing. I recently attended a Carol Concert, it was lovely. Great decriptive signs around the church and a good cafe. A shame that Greg's were allowed to open a shop almost opposite! Saint James' a lovely haven of peace within the bustling city.

The church is an amazing place to look around and then sit quietly and absorb the peace. The flickering candlelight is an inspiring focal point. The cafe was a lovely surprise. The coffee was memorable and there was a good range of snacks. The staff were keen to help with a gluten free option and the surroundings were clean and cheerful. The toilets were first rate too! It was good to see a range of ages visiting St. James. It is definitely worth a visit.

The oldest building in Bristol, once inside it is quiet, reverential and beautiful. The café is a haven in a bustling city, quiet and clean with superb food at a very competitive price. A must visit.
