My initial impression was good; the building is modern, smart, clean and located in a central part of the city and also has ample and easily accessible car parking on-site. I was slightly aggrieved at having to pay £10 to park, but nowhere else in Bristol is free that I know of so why should this one be any different. Besides, it's a lot cheaper than the nearby NCP so I can't really complain too much.
The reception area is spotlessly clean and the staff are attentive. I was checked in with no hassle at all and offered the chance to set up a bar/food charge on the room or pay as I went.
My only real point of complaint is that the air conditioning in the room was slightly noisy and I had to turn it off. That said, the room was cool enough without it and the bed was mega comfortable so I had an amazing nights sleep and awoke suitable refreshed and ready for my drive back to Newcastle. I didn't report it to reception though as it was no worse than other noisy air conditioning that I've experienced in hotels.
The en-suite bathroom was clean and the shower was good although I wish that I could have had it a little bit hotter as I do like a really hot shower in the morning and it wouldn't go any higher. Guessing health and safety would say no though.
Breakfast was good. Everything that I would expect and a decent cup of real coffee to go with it in comfortable surroundings. I didn't have dinner there the night before but the dining area was pleasant and quiet. Again, the staff were efficient and there to assist.
Check out was much like check in, swift and painless with a quick validation of my parking ticket.
Would I stay again? Definitely, but not at the posted £159 rate, £100 would still be good value though.
I stayed here on a Sunday night and pre-booked at an advance purchase rate (non-refundable) of £70, which I consider good value for a hotel of this standing, in this location with the facilities available.
