Now that Bell's Diner has moved on, Wilks is the best place for classic modern food in Bristol. This enthusiastic young couple (he cooks, she is front of house) took over this restaurant from the legendary Stephen Markwick a while back and are rapidly making it their own. Still in the classic style, but with a modern twist. We had John Dorey fillets with white beans, exotic mushrooms and herbs - exquisite! Puddings were equally good and the wine list, mainly supplied by local firm Vine Trail, is small but very well chosen. New seating and soft furnishing has soften the echo to create a comfortable and intimate restaurant. Service was informed and attentive. They even loaned us an umbrella when a sudden shower coincided with our departure!
