Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: The Climbing Academy is Bristol's purpose built bouldering facility! Bouldering is a branch of rock climbing, performed at low level, usually above crash mats, and without the hindrance of equipment normally associated with climbing. This allows the participant to fully focus on the techniques and movements and makes it easier for those wishing to climb to gain a safe entry into the activity. We make getting started easy. All you need to do is to come on down, watch our 10 minute safety video and you're climbing. You can then progress through classes and coaching or just by teaching yourself. Kids can get started through Boulder Club, starting with a Taster session (which adults can attend too) and then working up through Levels 1-5 bouldering awards. If you want to climb with your families then the family inductions session is for you. Please see TCA web site for more information and contact details.

We had an hour long lesson in a small group, which was excellent, and were then allowed to wander and climb round at our leisure. The staff and facilities are top notch. Can't comment on the cafe as we didn't have anything to eat. It was very crowded, but as total beginners we didn't feel intimidated. There was plenty of space and opportubity for all levels of ability. I found this type of climbing, "bouldering" much harder than outdoor climbing because all of the climbing walls have some level of angle, so there is no point at whicb you can rest all your weight on your legs. It uses a lot more upper body strength than I have at the moment but I am looking forward to trying again.

Went to Bristol for our anniversary and found this amazing indoor bouldering facility. The place is really friendly and modern, there are lockers to store your things in but you will need a padlock if you want to secure it, however we just used them as was. They have over 750 square meters of climbing wall to enjoy, with a hugh amount of problems to have a go at. We really enjoyed ourselves there was so much to have a go at that we ended up spending the afternoon there. The centre caters for various ages and had a great atmosphere. The staff were really friendly and helpful. They have a great cafe with wifi also available. Excellent place, will look forward to visiting again!
