Review of Jongleurs

Reviewed 17 February 2014

Made the unfortunate mistake of going Sat the 15th of Feb.
Food rubbish, venue rubbish, bar small and expensive, compare rubbish, 2 out of 3 comedians rubbish. The last act of the evening a "meat head Supposed South African comedian was the most insulting offensive act I've had the misfortune to witness he ruined a lot of people's evenings.
The only good point was comedian Des Clarke, he was a good act.

Don't bother it's a waste of a journey.

I could just about cope with the canteen style decor. But the last act was an abusive, drunk, sexist man. Absolutely appalling. The compare thought he'd get in on the act and also spent most of the night degrading women. Seriously low brow unintelligent comedy. Pathetic. Jongleurs should pick their comedians more carefully. It was embarrassing.

I won't review the acts as this will be different for every visit. However, I do need to review the new location of the Bristol Jongleurs, as it will affect your evening.

The room is very long and narrow with the stage midway down the long edge. This means the majority of punters are way up to the left or right of stage, only allowing for a few tables facing front of stage. I can't imagine how difficult it must be when your audience is either far left or right of you.

The tables are over-chaired to squeeze as many people in, so you will find yourself shoulder bumping strangers if you don't come in a group. It's like a school canteen.

Don't order a pitcher of anything other than tap beer unless you want a cocktail comprising of barely 2 glasses of cocktails, and 4 pints of ice and water. For £15.

And finally, the acoustics. The adjoining wall between Jongleurs and The Cuban Club offer absolutely no sound proofing. What this means is the comedians in a constant battle with thumping dance music for the entire evening. And when an act relies on pauses and timing, this can destroy the routine, and is comparable to constant heckling, or a mobile phone permanently ringing.

I really feel sorry for any comedian getting this gig. And it didn't look like they were enjoying it at all.

visited Jongleurs with my partner on night out. The location has moved so we spent 45mins looking for new location after being given wrong direction by local hotel. Finally we saw a man and bike with cart who gave us a free lift to the club this transport was provided by Jongleurs which was good. Location was ok apart from back round noise from bar next door this was a let down as affected the night due to hearing loud music instead of the comedian. Comedians were ok but focused on a couple in front throughout the whole nite which was very boring in the end. Tucker was the funniest and i would definately want to see him perform again. Otherwise was not fantastic food ok, staff helpful, location a let down all in all average.

Having read all the reviews we were concerned about this visit - bought as a present
It was great - 3 good comedians, thought I preferred the last 2 and my other half the first two the compere was very funny as well. there were 2 stag and 1 hen lot in and also to birthday parties ~The banter was excellent, yes you all seat close together - this meant we got to know the couples seated next to us and added to the evening - If you want plush and posh this isnt it but if you just want to let your hair down and have a laugh - this is fine, also setting in Bristol harbourside, means you are close to other bars and a great area to sit and watch the boats
