“Pick your spot well!”
Reviewed 25 January 2014

Went to see White Lies and we'd been before so thought about where to stand before we went and made sure we got up on to one of the balconies and stayed there. Great view of the stage and none of the barging about that was going on down on the floor.

“Good Venue”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

We visited the O2 Academy to see Airbourne. While in the queue outside a Security guard came out and said anyone with an O2 phone network can jump the queue which was a bit annoying as we have all paid the same price for tickets. The venue is very good and the service at the bars is good with friendly staff. There is a smoking area but you have to go to the top floor than down the stairs back to the ground floor outside area. The band were excellent as usual. A great night out.

“No problems for disabled patrons”
Reviewed 13 November 2013

I was at this venue for a Queen Extravaganza gig (which was excellent). Because I was in a wheelchair we got priority entrance. A member of staff was assigned to escort us through the bowels of the academy to the disabled seating area. The staff were helpful, courteous and friendly. It was a pleasure to go to the Academy, it was easy and will definitely attend other gigs here now we know how easy it was.

“One of my least loved venues”
Reviewed 12 November 2013

Note - this is a review for the VENUE, not for the particular gig I went to - Volcano Choir, which were fabulous.

I really don't enjoy the gig experience at the O2 Bristol. The layout is poor, being wide rather than deep. There are large swathes where the sight lines are abysmal.

Consequently, too, finding a good spot for both decent sound + view is very difficult.

The bar is in the main hall and makes no quietness consessions for when the band is playing.

And I'd hate to see it in full light. All the floors, both wooden and carpeted, are really really sticky and I've never known it otherwise in 8-10 years of gig going here.

Security could be best described as jobsworth.

The whole place is in dire need of a makeover.

And one final point. At this gig, whilst waiting for the band I saw a wheelchair user being taken to a place on the upper ground floor level. She was pushed to the barrier and that was it. She look somewhat miffed, as well she should, because the barrier top was right in her eye line!! Not very thoughtful at all. It wouldn't take much for there to be a dedicated ramp in the same area to take better care of such gig goers.

“Pretty good”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

Saw Imagine Dragons play here. Was quite crammed but you can expect that at gigs! Full of people raring to see good music. Atmosphere was incredible. Would like to go here again.
