We enjoyed our stay and the staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good and the room was a good size. I agree with some of the other reviewers about the smell in the rooms - it smelt like strong toilet cleaner which was a bit strange, but the room itself was clean. The pool changing rooms were tiny and very cramped and the pool was a bit disappointing. The hotel is in a really good location, a short walk to the restaurants on the quayside.

We stayed in June 2012 for a weekend on a local deal including a 3 course meal with wine and breakfast. The room was lovely, comfortable with a shower not a bath. The swimming pool was small and basic ie no jacuzzi/steam/sauna, but still nice. Breakfast was fab great choice. We had a terrible experience in the restaurant at diner, service was really poor, the food when finally arrive 90mins after ordering was great, but by then we had lost our appetite! Spa treatments were ok, I would not book again (staff not the most professional). The hotel is trying to improve its' image and were receptive to our comments. All in all we would stay again and would hope that the restaurant will improve

We stayed at the Mercure for 2 nights and we were really pleased. We paid extra to have the larger room and we were very pleased. The room was large, clean and modern. It had all you needed and even had an aux lead for your iPhone connected to the TV. The staff were helpful, polite and friendly. Breakfast was great, buffet style but well cooked and a great choice. The only complaint really is that parking was £12 a day. All in all a great stay though.

Stayed here Sunday night with travel zoo vouchers. I contacted hotel prior to purchasing voucher to see if availabilty for bank holiday and then booked break the booking staff very helpful and informed me that an upgraded room was available,reception staff very friendly helpful and accommodating. Room large and clean with everything you need. Had a couple of drinks at bar again staff very friendly. Had evening meal which was part of the offer but chose to eat off the ala carte menu the restaurant was extremely busy, but again staff really lovely although chef must have been having a bad night....my husbands steak was returned as had asked for medium rare but it was well done new steak prepared but this was also well done but he didnt send back again or we wouldve been eating seperately.... I had asked for my steak to be cooked medium rare too but also well done but I ate it and although not cooked to my liking it was really tasty ,people had long waits for meals heard alot of people complaining about the length of time from ordering to getting the starters. The matre d agreed that steaks were not cooked as requested and reimbursed us fairly. We had breakfast and have to say it was delicious plenty of choices well cooked would go as far to say it was one of the best breakfasts we have had in the uk.... We will return it hasn't put us off.

We actually quite linked the odd styling of this building. Our first impressions were also quite good. But quickly we became aware that the conversion from office block to hotel had not quite worked. All night we could hear the fire doors banging, the sound of water gushing between the walls as those upstairs used their toilets, this gave for a rubbish nights sleep. The pool was untidy, with left overs from the previous nights partying when we went for a morning swim. The worst part of the stay was breakfast, where ouselves and other guests had to scramble for the slow arriving morsels the kitchen was producing. The staff were disinterested in the many people awaiting their breakfasts. We would of complained upon leaving, but were unable to engage the reception staff.

Room Tip: If you have to stay here avoid the first floor rooms, as they are very noisy.
