Description: San Carlo is a popular and award-winning Italian dining institution in the heart of Bristol's bustling Corn Street. The restaurant's lavish dining room – with tiled floors, neutral décor and electric blue accents – has a unique Mediterranean ambience and is always busy with a vibrant local crowd. The buzzy atmosphere, bold flavours and warm hospitality at San Carlo combine to provide an ideal setting for group parties and corporate events. We love the modern yet authentic seafood-led menu, and favourite dishes include the spaghetti with shellfish, garlic, chilli and fresh basil in a tomato sauce; the classic tuna carpaccio; and the traditional spiced Italian sausages cooked with Borlotti beans and served with grilled polenta.

“fantastic Italian food - lively place!”
Reviewed 6 August 2012

We had a great family meal here for a birthday celebration - 10 people. Every member of staff greets you with great warmth. Food is fantastic! The menu is extensive and you will find something for everyone - regardless of where they sit on the scale of 'fussiness'. There is a great choice of meat/fish/chicken/pasta/pizza. Do take a look at the 'specials' - the sardine starter was delicious!
Waiters are attentive, food arrived promptly and in unison. Waiters have a sense of humour and join in with banter and share your sense of occasion. They are also very good at anticipating your needs.

I still don't know how the waiters realised it was my husbands 60th birthday - but they considerately brought him a 'birthday sundae' complete with a lit sparkler. A group of them then gathered round our table and sang 'happy birthday' in the style of 'one cornetto'. Great fun!

This is a lively, fun restaurant where we have been many times. We have never been disappointed and I strongly recommend it for a family with teenage children for special celebrations.

“Dreadful pasta”
Reviewed 6 August 2012

Had probably the worst pasta dish I've ever eaten here on Saturday night. Large chunks of uncooked bacon fat in a tasteless sauce. I left half the dish and picked the raw fat out onto the edge of the plate and one of what appeared to be 2 restaurant managers cleared the dish, noticed that much of it was uneaten and commented you need to have the Arrabiata next time. No thanks. Piccolino's serves much better pasta - I'll go there next time. Such a shame - this used to be a nice restaurant.

“Great Italian”
Reviewed 4 August 2012 via mobile

Would highly recommend this restaurant. Booked through the top table ink in the trip advisor app and was seated shortly after the booking time on a very busy Saturday night.

Excellent service and really good food which I can't really think if anything to complain about.

“Fantastic Italian food and service!”
Reviewed 4 August 2012 via mobile

The first thing that struck me about San Carlo was the attention each member of staff gave as we entered the building. They were all impeccably polite and welcoming and that set the scene for the evening. The food was absolutely delicious, it arrived promptly and we left the restaurant looking forward to a return visit. Highly recommended!
