Visited Bluegrass on Saturday night (07/09/13) looking for a table for 3. 45 minute wait (turned out to be an hour) meant a lengthy delay as you cannot book tables for less than 8 people, you just have to show up. We we're happy to wait and they said they would call my mobile to let me know when the table was free (nice touch) so we waited in a nearby bar. Eventually, we came back to the restaurant to be seated after an hour of trying not to be distracted by other options. The management then informed us that they had sold out of practically everything - Brisket, Ribs, Chicken - ALL GONE. The only option was to order a Burger or Pulled Pork. I went with the Pulled Pork, which was delicious. I planned to order one of the Pit Boss trays for myself - sort of a Man v Food thing, so will have to try another time. Given the place has only been opened a short time, the staff (under intense pressure) were very polite and courteous - they was not much they could do as the smokers only fit a certain amount of meat in! The food was tasty and the venue was well decorated and authentic. Would love to get the full experience, my advice is go early at weekends (5pm)! I'm going to try a midweek rainy Wednesday night and see if its any better than a very good rating.

One last thing, I would have stopped all phone orders knowing how busy the restaurant was! Customers that have travelled to eat at the establishment should not see people picking up takeaways when the the menu has been limited.

Thanks for your review and we're sorry you had to wait for a table.

We've been so overwhelmed with how busy we've been every night since we opened. As you mention, we can only slow smoke as much meat as we can physically fit in our smokers each day. We're working hard to increase our capacity to match demand, so hopefully in the coming weeks we won't have things selling out so much. It's so hard to control if everyone orders the same thing early on! We're working hard on communicating when items are running low or have nearly sold out, so everyone knows if they're waiting for a table. Thanks for understanding.

Regarding take away and phone orders, we're definitely not doing this yet. If you saw anyone with what looked like take away packaging, it might have been that we do our desserts in take away containers, so you can take them home if you can't finish them after the meal. Or some people ask for a container to take home left overs. It certainly wouldn't have been any phone orders going through, just so you know.

Thanks and hope to see you again.

We visited Bluegrass on the recommendation of my son who said it was good. It was a busy Saturday evening, and despite arriving early at 6pm, the restaurant was already full, and we had to wait 30 minutes before a table of four was available. The ordering system means you have to order and pay at the counter (similar to Nandos), and as they were so busy it took about another 30 minutes for the food to arrive.

We ordered a variety of dishes between our group. I had the pulled pork and brisket combo, and amongst the other we had burger, ribs, more pulled pork, sides of beans and onion rings, slaw and lovely fries - and wow what a feast. Absolutely delicious. Four clean plates sent back to the kitchen - but when I say plates, they are actually trays which is a nice touch. Four bottles of sauce on each table mean you can add as much as you like. It really was a first class evening and the staff were attentive and friendly. Country and Bluegrass music playing at an acceptable volume level. The restaurant. Has a nice décor- they have really thought about how it looks. Even the loos are good, with buckets as sinks and oil cans as soap dispensers!

Table bookings are only taken for tables of 8 or more, so you may have to be prepared to wait before you can get in. They are happy to take your mobile number and ring you when your table is ready, so you can pop over the road for a drink in the pub if the wait is too long. But it is definitely worth the wait!

Overall I'm a big fan of this place and the food is as good as any BBQ restaurant you'll find in the UK. Better than most, in fact. I've been there twice now and have sampled all the major menu items - ribs, chicken, brisket, pulled pork and burnt ends. I really love the fact that the tables have four types of home-made BBQ sauce that you can pour at will. A very authentic American touch and they really are delicious. I haven't had a hamburger yet but will do soon. Of the main meats that I've tried, the brisket really rocks! I've also tried most of the sides - fries, onion rings and mac&cheese. They have a great selection of rarer US beers (not just Bud and Coors!) as well as an excellent variety of American sodas not often found in the UK- root beer, grape soda and cream soda as well as the usual Coke, Dr Pepper, etc. The desserts are delicious too - I rate the Oreo & salted caramel pie, key lime pie and Reeses pie in that order.
So far so good right?
Well there's a little room for improvement. On the first visit I found the sides were just a few degrees cooler than they should have been and the fries were on the soggy side. Just a week later, on our second visit (with some friends this time) I was glad to see that sides were hot, fresh and crispy. The main meats were just on the cool side too but then they never get too hot in a smoker anyway so there's not much anyone can do about that. As we were visiting with friends - a party of four adults and two young teenagers - we ordered a BBQ chicken salad for my wife (delicious and highly rated) and then two of the restaurant's Pit Boss Platters - their complete combo plates. Given that the normal combos are £13.95 to £15.95 and are generous portions, I was expecting the £24.95 Pit Boss Platter to be a bit of a Man vs Food challenge. Not really. Not at all, in fact. Two hungry people would remain hungry after one of those. I thought that was pretty expensive for the amount of food and not the sort of value for money that the other combos offer. My advice is to get a regular combo and just keep going there until you've tried them all. I found the rub on the ribs to be just a little too sweet for my taste but seeing as they sold out during our first visit I don't think other people felt the same! Our friends certainly loved them. I'm a BBQ junkie and harsh critic, though, having sampled an awful lot of BBQ in the South, Midwest and West Coast US, and I have a photo of the first time Dad put a basting brush in my hand at the age of four!
On the service, atmosphere and friendliness side, Bluegrass can't be faulted. The staff are always attentive and pleasant and keen to give you information and some background on BBQ. There's good music playing and a vibrant, busy vibe to the place. Good luck to Bluegrass and I really hope they build on this very strong start.

This restaurant has only been open about a week. I visited with my friend as I had been looking forward to trying it out. I ordered the brisket and 'burnt ends', fries and a side order of pit beans (baked beans with some of the BBQ meat in and seasoned). The meat melted in the mouth, the fries were seasoned nicely and the pit beans were a perfect accompaniment. I had some questions due to a medical condition and the manager was very helpful, answering everything very well.
The staff were all friendly, smiley and seemed to know what they were talking about which is always a good sign.
My friend and I decided on a pudding so chose the Oreo and salted caramel pie. We were not disappointed. It was delicious and worth the calories!!!
I will be going back and would happily recommend it to anyone.
