“Warm atmosphere and warming food”
Reviewed 12 December 2011

Suprisingly quiet for an evening (Tuesday) leading up to Christmas - although it looked packed at lunchtime. Well-cooked brasserie-type food with a slightly different selection to Cafe Rouge (next door) - two mains for the price of one mid-week deal made the meal for four of us good value, and the wine was well priced.

The staff were very pleasant, despite the fact that we were last to leave (by about half an hour) and I think they wanted to go home !

“Mediocre”
Reviewed 10 December 2011

First and last visit to this restaurant. First impressions were of a high street chain restaurant with little ambience and lacking any privacy. It is more suitable for a working lunch than an intimate dinner. That said I hoped that the food would be its saving grace. Service was good which may have reflected th fact that he place was quite empty despite being a Friday evening.
Food was passable but VERY salty. . My wife exctracted a hair from her calamari starter. Generally the food looked as if it had been prepared and reheated. As other reviewers have remarked it is NOT French cuisine. There are a few nods towards French cooking but the place would be laughed out of any French town or City. We did enjoy the creme brullet which had a good consistancy.
Prices are reasonable but this is a restaurant that fails to deliver anything more thsn a mediocre experiance.

“such a shame. First time was lovely ,2nd time was awful”
Reviewed 22 November 2011

food ws awful . Staff were obviously under pressure and service was so slow left without sweet after spending over an hour in the place for lunch . Spoke to the head office ,but never felt taken seriously . Was informed the head chef was working that day ding a stock take (monday lunchtime) . Who r they kidding ."head chef" . Never will return again ,and started the dislike i have of these "ethnic" chains that claim to cook French , italian and other world cuisine ,whilst just churning out microwaved ,unloved rubbish . If it's good authentic food you want ,visit a privately owned family restauarant if at ll possible

“Good place for a business lunch with a colleague”
Reviewed 22 November 2011

I took a colleague here, for lunch, and we used the voucher to get 2 for 1 (plus £1). Other reviewers have commented that the restaurant is frequently almost empty. That's why I use it about once a month for lunch with a workplace colleague. It's quiet, and other people can't here your workplace gossip. The tables are well-spaced, and the seats are comfortable. There's plenty of room to hang your bulky winter coat. The restaurant, including the toilets is spotless.

Food is authentic French, and the suppliers seem to be good. They have all the classic dishes. Some reviewers mention thatthey had to wait. Well friends, that is the French style. Your food is indivually prepared -- this is not a vacuum-pack-in-the-microwave establishment. In France you expect to wait. But having said that, this restaurant does seem to have a problem sometimes with paying attention to the customers; the management do need to take that slightly more seriously. The wine list is what you would expect for the prices being charged. There's sparse information about the wine, so you need to be familiar already with French wine.

Price is an issue. I think one reason why they are seldom busy is that their prices are too high for students. With some main courses you have to buy a side order (£2.75)

Expect to pay £28 - £32 for a two course meal with 250 ml wine and coffee and a tip
