Description: Located in the heart of Cambridge, opposite Kings College Chapel, The Cambridge Chop House is a traditional British bar and restaurant that has been popular with locals and visitors from further afield since it opened in 2007. Split over two levels, the ground floor boasts views of Kings College Chapel while the basement is an intimate, atmospheric cellar split into four rooms. The menu offers British classics made from locally sourced ingredients and the two course set lunch and pre-theatre menu is excellent value for money. Popular dishes include Mutton Barnsley chops; whole sea bass with wholegrain mustard sauce; and daily changing sausages made on site. The hearty portions are best served with local ales straight from the cask or wine from an extensive list.

Partner and I have eaten here twice in last two months and the food is good for an up-market steak house....but not the best in Cambridge for taste or value for money....but I'llstill go back as it is convenient and the location is great with a fantastic view if you can get a seat at street level...but the cellar is also good with nice atmosphere

We ended up in the Chop House after a log walk around the Colleges and were quite tired and hungry. The service was very good and I enjoyed my three course meal. I had haggis fritters for starters and fishcakes for my main meal. The pudding was also delicious. Very happy with the food and service and will definitely recommend the place. We got to sit on the ground floor and had a great view of King's College. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the ambiance.

In this restaurant everything fits well, except the rooms in the basement although the service down there is very good. It's the missing view which is spectacular from the seats at ground floor. The food is good, the steaks are well known for the quality and good preparation.

I have been to the Cambridge Chop House about ten times now, and it has been fantastic every time. The food is always excellent, the service is always very friendly and efficient, the atmosphere is always good. I've taken my children and they have loved it - the sausages with a choice of sauces and a choice of mash are a special favourite - and I've been a couple of times with a friend in a wheelchair and it easy fairly easy to access the place and for him to be comfortable there.
The last time I was there the starter was lovely - smoked salmon sweetened with beetroot, and so were the smoked mackerel fishcakes I had for the main course. I would like to see the fish pie make a comeback, as I used to be fond of that too. Always, always, friendly service and top notch food.

This place is a bit different. All the cuts of meat are brought to your table on a big platter and the chef explains how he intends to cook and serve each one. From there on the service is not formal but quite relaxed. The food was cooked just right and tasted super. This made for a very pleasant evening.
