Description: Located in the heart of Cambridge, opposite Kings College Chapel, The Cambridge Chop House is a traditional British bar and restaurant that has been popular with locals and visitors from further afield since it opened in 2007. Split over two levels, the ground floor boasts views of Kings College Chapel while the basement is an intimate, atmospheric cellar split into four rooms. The menu offers British classics made from locally sourced ingredients and the two course set lunch and pre-theatre menu is excellent value for money. Popular dishes include Mutton Barnsley chops; whole sea bass with wholegrain mustard sauce; and daily changing sausages made on site. The hearty portions are best served with local ales straight from the cask or wine from an extensive list.

Having arrived on the Saturday when Kings College were holding a graduation party, it was always likely that we would have difficulty finding somewhere to eat, but my wife, son and I secured a table at the Chop House on King's Parade.

My Barnsley Chop was delicious, if perhaps not quite as pink in the middle as I would have chosen; my wife's fish was really uninspiring (but what do you expect when you order fish in a meat restaurant?) and my son's corn-fed chicken was probably the best of the three dishes. I did rather object to paying an additional £9 for chips (son), mash (me) and salad (for the wife)!

Service was rushed, but this was probably down to the fact that the place was extremely busy... and that is why I am giving them the benefit of doubt when awarding FOUR for this restaurant - food was good, service was (at best) OK - and that would have qualified for a THREE under less stressful circumstances.

Absolutely lovely Sunday lunch, so glad we came here. The poached duck egg on crumpet and the tomato soup starters were ordered and were a good size and beautifully tasty. Roasts for lunch which were full plates and also very tasty, staff were friendly and helpful, will definitely come back for food again. We have been here a few times but just for a drink whilst shopping.

I had an awesome meal here.

The staff are exeedingly helpful from showing which the different cuts of meat on the 'meat platter of the day' to helping with wine selection.

Delicious, food, great wine, and though it was expensive it was worth it.

This restaurant is really worth visiting. The excellent food is matched by the excellent service. The emphasis is on good quality, well cooked meats. There are other choices, but this is what this establishment excels in. We were downstairs on a very warm night, and the lack of cooling made it a bit uncomfortable. Coupled with a very noisy large party, these slightly detracted from an otherwise very enjoyable evening. One aspect that I love is the knowagable way the meat cuts are explained to you by the waitress. Well worth a vist
