Description: Located in the heart of Cambridge, opposite Kings College Chapel, The Cambridge Chop House is a traditional British bar and restaurant that has been popular with locals and visitors from further afield since it opened in 2007. Split over two levels, the ground floor boasts views of Kings College Chapel while the basement is an intimate, atmospheric cellar split into four rooms. The menu offers British classics made from locally sourced ingredients and the two course set lunch and pre-theatre menu is excellent value for money. Popular dishes include Mutton Barnsley chops; whole sea bass with wholegrain mustard sauce; and daily changing sausages made on site. The hearty portions are best served with local ales straight from the cask or wine from an extensive list.

Was working in Cambridge and went to the Chop House on a whim.

Parking is a pain in the backside. Though there is parking near by, this is the summer (thus no students) and we still couldnt find a space. We did park directly outside in a loading only zone, which so long as you sit upstairs, you can easily see to move if needed. Luckily, we were able to enjoy our meal unimpeeded.

We had the sharer platter between three of us which was nice, but would be better for two. Id suggest it had too much crackling and i was dissapointed that it didnt come with any of their betroot and whisky mayonaise to go with the haggis fritters (do try them!)... That said everything was pleasant.

For the main, I had a sirloin (£20 inc chips coleslaw and a choise of sauce) which i like rare and came cooked perfectly.

While we didnt have dessert we did enjoy a coffee, a few ales....

The only let down was that the wine list was exclusively french (or 99% there of)...

I will definitely go back next month.

5/5

Sharer starter, 3 mains and a few drinks was £100.

Well located restaurant just across the road from King's College with a cosy interior. We were sat in the basement without outside views as we didn't have a reservation but the charming decor meant it was still a comfortable environment at lunchtime.

The waiters were very friendly and the food was very well prepared and tasty. The menu mostly consists of large chops of meat as the restaurant's name would suggest and the meat is very well cooked and presented simply but carefully. The pork chop with mushroom sauce was cooked extremely well and something I would definitely order again. The food is slightly on the expensive side but the quality is high and for a day trip to Cambridge, it is well worth visiting.

Been there to celebrate a special occasion and was not disappointed. The service was very good but it was the food that was absolutely top-notch. I have always been wary of British cuisine to celebrate a special date but this one is definitely worth going. Never had meat so tender, at the perfect point and with matching accompaniments. The guest ale was also really good. Happy to go back at anytime.
