“Tasty Birthday dinner”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

I booked for 11 people for a Saturday night, for a 'big' birthday dinner. I visited before the night to take a look and Martin the manager couldn't have been more helpful. He showed me where I would be sitting and gave me a menu to take away. I confirmed the booking and a few days before the dinner we confirmed the menu. Everything on the night was great. It's a lovely environment, we had a view out on to the Cam which was beautiful as the sky grew dark. The food was great. The men had starters of pork cheeks, the girls shared olives and bread and dukkahs. All the mains were served together and were hot and very tasty. We had most of the menu between us, lamb, artichoke risotto, sea bass, guinea fowl and steaks. Everyone enjoyed their dinners. The service was good and friendly, the staff were willing to take a group photo for us, despite their busy evening. A good night. 14 June 2014

“Terrible service”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

We had booked The Anchor for 6 on a Saturday afternoon in June. Having booked you would expect your table to be ready, however when we arrived the waiting staff upstairs seemed to have no idea! This continued for the entire visit! Once we were seated in a table of our choice as they had not set up a table as per our reservation the service continued to go downhill. The syrup had run out in the lemonade so the lager shandy and lager tops were made with soda, obviously we asked for them to be changed and suggested that the syrup must have run out, the boys serving us might as well have been on Mars talking to aliens as they had no clue or any initiative. We ordered food and again the boys serving were so bad that we had to ask serval times for condiments and the portion of chips we had ordered. The food was ok, chips weren't cooked through, however it mostly nice. On finishing our meal we decided that it was safest to pile the plate up at the end of the table as we seriously didn't trust the waiting staff not to spill ketchup or left over food on us. Because we were a party of 6 there was a 10% service charge on our bill we paid but it was most certainly not earned, they boys waiting on is were bad mannered! lazy and quite frankly on a different planet. I hope they buck up or ship out as they aren't doing The Anchor any favours. Most certainly won't be returning on my next Cambridge visit.

“The best view, food and service in Cambridge”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

After a frustrating drive to Cambridge, we finally parked the car and looked for somewhere to eat. We made for The Anchor, since it had been recommended to us.

We weren't disappointed. The views of the weeping willow over the river in the sunset and of the punts coming and going at Scudamore's boat yard were enticing. The range of food and beer / wine on offer was excellent. The menu was in fact very imaginative for pub food.

Above all, we were impressed by the service. Tracy was on duty that night and she helped us in a most courteous and professional way, even when we were being (in retrospect) rather too demanding. Thank you, Tracy, for putting up with us!

There was a Hungarian waitress too, whose name I didn't catch, who was also very diligent and helpful.

Excellent location, excellent view, excellent drink, excellent food, excellent staff. I heartily recommend The Anchor.

“Great spot for friendly staff, good food and people watching”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

The sun shone, the fish and chips were great, the fresh garden mushy peas were wonderful and the view of the people and punts was second to none. Yes you have to pay for it but its worth every penny to laze away the day in a wonderful position.
