“Not sure how it is ranked that high...2.5* hotel”
Reviewed 6 September 2011

My wife, my 2 years old daughter and I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights during the end of August.

When we came, we asked for help with the luggage.
Apparently they don't have a bellboy, so the receptionist helped us and rushed back to his post. It was very nice of the receptionist, but I do expect a hotel to have a dedicated bellboy to help out.

The room that we got was large and fit the needed baby cot.
On the down side, the bath flow was weak, and we could hear the near highway even with the double glass window.

Breakfast was not included, so we ordered a coffee and a muffin to takeaway for 3-4 pounds (don't remember exactly), but after paying they found out that they don't have paper cups, so we didn't get the coffee (and had to leave to the airport, and that's happened after my wife, asked them whether there are paper cups.

Maybe our expectations were high after seeing this hotel rank, and coming from a Hilton. At the end, this is a 2.5* hotel. no more and no less.

This is a very modern and large Premier Inn in the middle of a housing estate, right on top of a major A road. The family room we were given was certainly not big enough for a family of 4. There was no space to walk around the beds, they were all crammed together. For 3 it would be fine. The room was noisy from the road and the water systems in the hotel, as well as suffering from lots of noise from within the hotel from other guests, doors banging and floor boards creaking. The beds were far too hard, impossible to sleep on, luckily the Premier Inn guarantee means we did get a refund as ew had had a poor night's sleep. Breakfast was good though.

This is a newly built hotel and so has the advantage of being self contained as opposed to a dormitory block attached to a pub that you sometimes get with Premier Inns

Room
Average size hotel room. Very clean and in good order, not surprising given it is new. Maid service is time and the toiletries provided are acceptable. Not quite so well appointed as some more expensive hotels - e.g. no free biccies. TV has a typical selection of free view channels. Wifi available but you have to pay for it. We did have problems getting a mobile signal and access to Openzone in the room - once you left the building reception was good.

Food
All you can eat breakfast for £7.99. Traditional English and continental options available. Decent quality food that has been properly cooked. Reasonable choice but falls down as black pudding is not available.
We tried the evening menu. They offer a pub food type menu. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. Again the food is nicely cooked, I was amazed they could cook a medium rare steak to perfection - something that many more expensive hotels and restaurants cannot do.

Communal areas
Aiiry and clean. Lounge/bar area is limited and off the lobby. Restaurant is adjacent and plenty big enough. Wouldn't say it has a romantic feel, more functional but its ok.

Access etc
Very close to the major A14 road junction. Handy for the Milton Park and Ride. There is a local bus service, the stop being about 5 mins walk from the hotel. The evening and Sunday service is poor - low frequency, early finish and re expensive than the P&R. The hotel has plenty of free parking

Service
Very good- all the staff we dealt with were very friendly and extremely helpful - and they know how to smile. There are not a lot of staff and they did struggle a bit when it was very busy in the restaurant. This is more down to understaffing than anything to do with those who work there. They seem to work very hard indeed.

Nice clean room and good facilities. Great staff and 1st class security. Breakfast pretty good. Hotel surroundings not the best - is part of a new development with housing and a school but it already looks uncared for. Such a pity because once you are in the hotel everything is fine but the area around it doesn't give a good 1st impression.

We found ti really hard to find this hotel. It's tucked away three streets away from the A14, on a new-build council estate that's not yet listed on many maps or satnavs, so if you book, definitely print off a map before you go and don't rely on satynav. We would have found it much more quickly if there had been a sign pointing to it.

The room was really clean and nicely laid-out, but we had to wait for a room to be ready and then call down to get some toilet paper. We'd paid £98 for one night, so I'd expect the experience to be a little smoother.

Breakfast was excellent quality and all you can eat, but the buffet system was a little chaotic.

This is a very modern Premier Inn, and everything was as we had expected. The check-in was very prompt and efficient, rooms were clean - as were the public areas. The only difficulty was adjusting the air conditioning. Small adjustments did not appear to make any difference, and larger changes seemed to take ages to become effective - and were then too much! At least the facility is there to be used - which is better than just heating. Our room was on the sixth floor, and although this was near a lobby door there was little if any noise. The food in the Restaurant was excellent, and the service quick and efficient, but the prices are slightly on the high side.
