Premier Inn Cambridge (A14, J32) Hotel

If you're just passing through Cambridge and want a handy and comfortable place to bed down for the night, you could do a lot worse than this Premier Inn, conveniently if somewhat incongruously located in a new housing development just off the A14. As usual with Premier Inns, the welcome was friendly and my room on the first floor was very clean and comfortable. Although it faced onto the A14 and traffic noise was clearly audible, I didn't find it intrusive and managed to get a good night's sleep. I had my evening meal in the bustling restaurant and enjoyed my starter of hot-smoked salmon salad followed by a passable sirloin steak served with excellent chips. The food service was good, but having to wait 15 minutes for my drink to arrive was a let down. Breakfast was of the buffet variety with a good choice of hot and cold items. This was my second stay at this particular Premier Inn and I'll definitely be returning.

We arrived at 16.00, reception was as usual, friendly and efficient, booking for dinner that evening easy and we could relax in exceptionally clean and comfortable rooms. We were on the rear and feared that road noise might provide some noise but we were wrong. We were two couples visiting Cambridge for the first time since our youth and for us we were ideally placed for a bus route into/out of the city was withing 200 yards, enabling us to use our passes very easily, a comfortable 5 minutes walk and we had a very good relaxing time. Dinner was very good, service excellent and the following two days we ate the usual exceptional breakfasts from the buffet.
Premier Inns profess to be "budget" but to my mind are far better and have always offered us a very good deal and we will continue to use them if only for short breaks such as this.

Room Tip: If worried about traffic noise a) don't be but, b) ask for a room to the front

Premier Inns seem to be consistently good and this one is no exception. It is remarkably well hidden, unfortunately, and takes a bit of finding in a new housing estate just off the A14. There is an excellent bus service into the centre - the bus stop is within easy walking distance and not 12 minutes away, as has been suggested by a previous reviewer. Rooms are comfortable and air conditioned, so road noise is not an issue. Breakfasts are more than adequate, although scrambled egg under lights on a hot plate are, as ever, to be avoided like the plague!
Staff are friendly, smiling and helpful and I would be happy to return.

This is a modern hotel just on the outskirts of Cambridge. It represents exceptional value for money compared to other Cambridge hotels. I've never had a problem with this chain before - very clean, extremely comfortable beds and we have had no noise issues - we asked for a room away from the main road. Taxi fare into Cambridge is about £8 or there is a bus stop 5-10 minutes away with a frequent service into the city. A good choice of cooked items for breakfast. Have stayed here several times and will stay again.

Room Tip: Away from the main road

We arrived to a very welcoming hotel , as soon as we got there they asked us if we had stayed before and when we said no they gave us maps of the city and said if we needed any more help not to hesitate to ask . The room was at the front of the hotel over looking the A14 , just open the window and then shut it again and you will realise how good the windows are

We stayed at this hotel to enjoy a short visit to Cambridge. We could not have made a better choice. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were given a very useful map of Cambridge which was invaluable. The receptionist also directed us to a local bus just minutes away, which took us right to the centre. We enjoyed the freedom of not having to use our car and it meant a very relaxing time visiting several colleges. Thanks to the map we had no difficulty in catching the bus back. Our room was well equipped, very clean and was "just as it says on the tin" no disappointments. The breakfast is help your self, good value but nothing very special. This does not detract from a very satisfactory stay.

Hotel very convenient for Newmarket races with plenty of free parking, Breakfast everything you expect from Premier Inn and the Rooms are clean and comfortable.

But the food served for the evening meals was overcooked and tasteless - suggest anyone staying there goes out for their evening meals. We will not stay in a Premier Inn with this type of Thyme Restaurant again
