“Reputation well deserved”

Really superb sandwiches, first-rate atmosphere, decor and ambience. Really really special place. It's insanely busy at mealtimes though, so either book in advance or come early.

“History, Good Food, Good Brew Right in the Heart of Cambridge”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2013

Ok I am a bit biased as this is a pub I've enjoyed for 20 years...its rich with history (Check out the RAF and 8th Air Force Bar in the back where memoribilia from WW2 and modern times decorate the walls and ceiling. The food is very good (great place for the classic Fish and Chips) and there's always a great selection of beer and Ale...to include the flavorful Eagle DNA...you can enjoy it sitting in the seat where DNA was first discovered. Great place for lunch and a few pints with friends...or if you aren't going to eat at least have a beer in the Air Force bar and ponder the history.

“Very interesting pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2013

Very interesting pub with all the cigarette lighter, candle smoke, and lip stick graffiti of World War II airmen covering the ceiling in the RAF bar. This is also the place where it was announced that the "secret of life had been discovered" after Oxford scientists came up with their proposal for the structure of DNA. Good food and service too! Very nice outside eating area.

“Paying homage to Crick and Watson with decent food and ale”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2013

Interesting pub with multiple interesting rooms, acceptable food, decent ales and, of course, the association with Crick and Watson and the first description of DNA as well as a room with fliers names burned on the ceiling retained since WWII. Probably best to get there a bit early if planning to eat at lunch as it can be busy with the lunch trade. Menu not inspiring, but the burgers and such were fine.

“Come for the atmosphere and then the food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2013

Sitting in the pub room is SUCH a cool experience! And if you're lucky, you might even run into one of the guys to share stories with you!

The food is hit or miss... The steaks were EXCELLENT! While their roast beef was dry and leaving much to be desired. As with what appears to be many pubs in the area, they run out of food fairly frequently, so make sure you ask before you set your heart on anything.

The dessert sampler is TOTALLY worth it! So get one for the table to share!!

The bar staff are very helpful and happy to share a flavor with you if you'd like to try something new.
