We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Varsity and can highly recommend it to other travelers. The location is great, right by the river and very central to all shops, restaurants and historic colleges. Our room was beautifully decorated and spacious, crisp bed linens and comfortable bed. The bathroom had a shower and a traditional Victorian bathtub to soak and relax in. The roof terrace was spectacular with amazing views over Cambridge. Breakfast was delicious with plenty to choose from. Friendly and very helpful staff throughout the hotel.

It was very central and this was important to me having being a undergraduate living in college some 30 odd years ago. Whilst there wasn't any onsite parking, the overnight long stay carpark was 5 minutes up the road and the hotel sorted out the parking ticket for the next day.
We had booked a suite and were upgraded to one of the penthouse suites which had fantastic views over the roof tops. It did feel a bit exposed because of the floor to ceiling windows but good luck to those who want to look in! There was a peculiar arrangement of the bathroom off the living room rather than the bedroom - but that didn't detract from the comfort or overall experience. Staff were very helpful and friendly. restaurant next door was good for breakfast.

Room Tip: higher is better!

Location by the river is perfect. And it is just a short walk from restaurants, and major shopping area. Had room with balcony overlooking Cambridge greenery. The room was spacy with a bathtub and a shower. Bathroom was totally ok but could use a touch-up in order to claim four star status. The king size bed was perfect, but the extra bed for the child was very fragile and weak. The flat screen tv and Ipod player are nice features. The gym was better than most hotels offer, but far from good if you are a regular. Overal a nice experince except for one thing: Parking. You have two choices: one very exepensive parking garage about 3 minutes from the hotel or a less expensive parking lot about 15 mintues from hotel. Would have been nice if hotel made a special deal with parking garage or offered somekind of solution to the parking problem.

Room Tip: Avoid the lower floors due to noise.

We stayed here for two nights for our wedding in 'Magdalene' Senior Fellows' Four Poster Room. Views were fantastic and room spacious and well equipped. Only setback was that the air conditioning unit malfunctioned and could not be fixed, but the hotel resolved the situation to our satisfaction. Compared to other hotels of comparable quality in Cambridge this is by far the most central.

Room Tip: 'Magdalene' Senior Fellows' Four Poster Room is excellent

Having arrived at the hotel on a busy Saturday morning it was great to be welcomed into a calm and chic oasis. The hotel is in a lively quite side street but is only a few dozen yards from all the sights and sounds of the city. The room was great spacious, well decorated and with a wonderful bed. The access to wi-fi and the i-pod docking was very useful. The breakfast was very good, great choice and great staff. Cannot recommend this highly enough.

Stayed here with my mum for 2 nights. Nice hotel but we had a few issues that were resolved by the hotel manager very quickly.
- this hotel has no on site parking (expected from an inner city hotel) but the parkings an easy 15 minuite walk away, not ideal for when you forget stuff in the car.
- we stayed in a double room, that seemed very small, the furniture seemed squeezed in and there was really much room for anything else. No bath only shower, to get to the spa you have to leave the hotel and it's more like a fitness club. The jacuzzi looks out over the river and is stunning, but the window is on a walkway so you often get people putting there faces to the window and looking in.
- beware if booking a penthouse room as there balcony is over looked by the rooftop bar which is open till 21:00, and people are nosy.
- we had a double room with a balcony just below the pent house rooms, a little overlooked but not as bad, plus fabulous view over Cambridge.
- you have to leave the hotel to get to the resterants.
The hotel is very nice, the roof top bar is fabulous and for location you couldn't really ask for a better hotel.

One of the few City Centre Hotels in Cambridge so great location. Close to many restaurants, bars and shops and punting down the river can start 50 yards from the hotel.

Roof terrace bar and restaurant with great views over the city.

Stylish rooms and excellent service.

Room Tip: We would recommend you check which room you are booking - accommodation ranges from very comfortable...
