“Business Trip - Amazing hotel, would highly recommend...”

I recently booked The Varsity Hotel & Spa for a 2 day meeting which included hiring out a conference room for 2 days and 8 overnight rooms. Organising the booking with the hotel’s event’s organiser couldn’t have been easier and we were very well looked after during our stay. The conference room (Trinity Room) was perfect, with a balcony and great natural lighting coming in. Just what you need when you have an all-day meeting with the convenience of popping out onto the balcony for a five minute break soaking in the great view. The staff were very accommodating and welcoming and were always happy to help with any urgent/last minute requests. The bedrooms were all very nice, comfortable, clean and I have to say, the bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in! The valet parking service was used by a few of us and was very convenient rather than paying double the amount to park in the car park nearby. Unfortunately, did not have time to use the spa facilities but I will most definitely return on a social occasion to use. Great location near various restaurants! We started the night off in the hotel’s restaurant/bar (River Bar) where they do some great cocktails. We went to Café Rouge around the corner where we had a fabulous meal and finished the evening off in the hotel bar. The only small downfalls were the toilets being situated on the 2nd floor from the Trinity Room which is on the 6th floor. The lift was a little slow so was a little inconvenient and the soft drinks provided during lunch were a little overpriced. A small bottle of coke at £3.50 is rather extortionate. However, overall, we all had a great experience with the friendly staff and would highly recommend for both a business trip and social trip.

We enjoyed our too brief stay in Cambridge. This is a good place to stay and is near several restaurants and the health spa. We had a fabulous room with large glass windows on two sides and a balcony.

We stayed on the 15th March. The Varsity came recommended by a friend who had stayed there on several occasions. The location was ideal for visiting our son who is studying in Cambridge. We were very impressed with the excellent service from the initial reservation process to the door man that greeted us in the bowler hat.Our room was more than comfortable with an indulgent bathroom, lovely views and a private balcony.
My husband used the gym the following morning and said it was excellent. Our son joined us later for breakfast which was very busy but efficient.
We would stay here again.

We stayed for one night on a very quick trip to Cambridge. We stayed in a senior fellows super king room and the room and views were wonderful. The hotel staff were very accommodating and they let us see the view from the roof terrace despite it not being open. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and the food was good. Would definitely recommend staying at The Varsity Hotel & Spa

The Good
Great location, roof top bar and surprisingly fantastic free tour by a very knowledgeable guide. Better than the paid for tour with the tourist info.
The Bad
Tiny! Tiny! Room (513)
tiny bathroom (smaller than my wardrobe!) shower/sink/loo squeezed into a box.
Windows only open a crack.
The Ugly
Very over priced generally, not good value.
English breakfast NOT included in extortionate rate or fresh orange juice - extra charges apply. For the room rate shocking!
Spa????? Mmmm try a real one and you'll know this is just a tiny cold jacuzzi in a dirty room with sauna and steam room - skip it.

Stay again... No
Visit cambridge again... Yes!

We recently stayed in the The Varsity Hotel for one night while visiting Cambridge. I booked a standard room, although I let the staff know it was for a special occasion. Upon arrival we learned we've been upgraded to the Penthouse Suite, which is absolutely stunning and has almost 360 views of beautiful Cambridge. In the evening we enjoyed a lovely dinner in the hotel's restaurant The River Bar, and once again we got treated with care but without fuss. The food was well prepared as well. The following morning spent in the spa was divine. We were allowed late check out - since we wanted to enjoy the spa and come back to our room to change - which was also greatly appreciated. I have recommend the hotel to my work colleagues who are looking for a hotel and meeting place in Cambridge, and I'm sure they will be delighted as well. It's clear the management and staff really understand hospitality and service.

Stayed here for my moher's birthday back in December 2013. Lovely hotel, bit of a trek from the station but the receptionist was kind enough to inform me on booking that whilst walking is possible from the station a taxi would be better. Hotel is very close to the town centre however and very quick and easy to walk to.

Room was beautifully decorated and clean, good size as was the bathroom. Large balcony which overlooked Cambridge was a nice touch even if the weather didn't allow us to enjoy it. The bed was a rather small double which didn't give us the best night sleep unfortunately.

I had also booked some spa treatments for both of us, it came to just over £300 in total for two massages, a facial and a manicure so expectations were high. The massages and facial were good, I was a bit disappointed with the manicure which was performed at the massage table and was quite uncomfortable as I had to sit at an odd angle. The manicure only lasted about 7 days whereas other Jessica branded manicures I have had elsewhere last a good 2 weeks.

Breakfast was a short walk round the corner from the hotel which was fine and explained to us on check in. Food was delicious and being able to order items from the menu as well as have a buffet selection as part of the price was very nice. All in all we did have a really lovely experience but a few disappointments stopped me giving a 5 star review. I would recommend the hotel to others however and they would not put me off staying here again.
