Stayed in January as part of a visit to the Cambridge Distillery and the hotel was superb. I can't remember the name of our suite, but it was a dual aspect room with floor to ceiling views of Cambridge - stunning and allowed us to take in the January view from the coziness of our room.

We only stayed one night and so because of the cracking room we didnt spend too much time in the communal areas.

Great location, very central for Cambridge, if a little confusing on how to get to it with the one way system in place. We opted for valet parking - definitely worth the money.

Breakfast was ok, we only opted for the contintental breakfast included with the room which was average - juice not fresh, pastries older (or from a packet?) etc

For once the gym facilities are actually very good, new equipment, proper weights area - worth a visit if you're interested.

Five points for the room, three for the breakfast.

A great location valet parking but was very easy for the extra charge of £19 worth it

Great service friendly staff nice little gym facility and spa and a nice breakfast

We had a fantastic room 511 on the 5th floor with stunning panoramic views of Cambridge

A very enjoyable experience

And for curry lovers the Indian lounge was great

Room Tip: Room 511 has the most amazing panoramic views of Cambridge on the 5th floor Also close to wonder...

I know Cambridge isn't cheap, and this hotel certainly follows that trend.

We found a decent off-season deal here and were very pleased. For a good deal, it's not entirely surprising to be allocated the smallest room in the place, but I hadn't quite expected it to be quite so small.

The design is pleasant but already slightly dated - your standard 'union jack cushion' trend of a few years ago. The beds are extremely comfortable, although the double really is a double, not a queen or a king.

The room's size wasn't ideal. Lots of compromises had been made to the layout - the bathroom sat awkwardly in there, the door not quite in the right place; the bedside table was so small that the alarm clock was on a low shelf by the floor; the window was partially frosted, as it was overlooked by offices (and in turn overlooked the service entrance to the restaurant - tons of bottles clanking in the early hours). These only add to the claustrophobic feel

Another drawback is that fact that there is only one lift in the hotel, meaning that all housekeeping tasks need to be carried out using the same lift as guests. The result is that, for half the day, the corridors are full of laundry and carts, making it feel unwelcoming and cheap.

The breakfast was decent - but the all-or-nothing supplement for cooked products again just feels cheap, particularly given the cost of the rooms.

Do also note that the roof terrace, a star attraction of the place, is closed for much of the year. We were unable to gain access.

The valet parking works well, but it has to - there is very little room to manoeuvre in this residential street. The residents are - quite rightly - rather annoyed at constant blockages to the road and pavement as the drop-off has been badly thought out, and quick to get traffic enforcement involved.

The location is just wonderful - right in the heart of the city.

I get the impression it's a hotel that thinks it's an awful lot better than it is - and the pricing reflects this. It does seem hugely popular, and so I imagine will continue in this vein for some time.

We were supposed to stay at the Hotel du Vin, but they fouled up our reservation, so they put us at the Varsity instead. We had a good size room, and the bed was quite comfortable. The hotel is very simple and not very elegant in decoration. However, they make up for that in the warmth of their welcome on checking in and the clean, comfortable rooms. The bathroom was quite strange in that it was clad in black tiles.

We were very pleased to have ventured to visit Cambridge on the hottest day of the year so far and to see it in all it's glory. Students, bicycles, pavement cafes, stunning colleges and architecture, the beautiful River Cam, punts and pymms! Even more impressive was the hospitality and service at The Varsity..... Great doorman and valet parking, swift reception directing us to the Roof Garden in all it's glory, great room, and restaurant. The staff could not do enough for you. Please visit, you will not be disappointed! Worth every penny!

We had lived in Cambridge for five years and on our final night we decided to stay and experience the "inner city" life.

Service from the moment we walked in the door, had our room upgraded, every whim satisfied, delicious breakfast through to the concierge loading out bags (many many bags as we were leaving the country) into our taxi was marvelous.

Every member of staff delightfully friendly and helpful.

Room was lush and expansive.

Bed so comfy, and plush bathrobes ... if only we could of stayed there longer :)

Price was reasonable for Cambridge. Cost is on par with the double tree, but level of service (including breakfast and free wifi) cannot compare. This place is awesome. Do it!!!

Thanks all! I would love to mention people by name, but alas my memory is failing me.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade! you might be surprised :)

Stayed here for 1 night with my girlfriend as it was her birthday. Stayed in room 412 and have to say for £200 was not impressed whatsoever. Very basic room and the views weren't exactly anything to shout home about either. Worst of all though was the breakfast. Absolutely disgusting the fact that you had to pay for a cooked breakfast and there was little choice especially considering the price you pay. You can get a better deal on your breakfast at a premier in for £40 a night.
Positives were it was very clean, superb location and staff were very friendly. All in all decent hotel but massively overpriced. Wouldn't recommend it in all honesty
