“Great location”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

We loved this hotel - right in the middle of Cambridge so perfect location but hotel on a quiet side street so very peaceful ambience. The valet parking was a real bonus and definitely worth the money. Our room was gorgeous - floor to ceiling windows were like glass walls overlooking the college rooftops. We got a deal on the price and thought we had a bargain. Spacious bathroom and shower - fluffy towels and a proper hair drier! The rooftop bar is another bonus and you are given a blanket if its chilly. We ate dinner at the River Bar - a delicious steak cooked to perfection at a reasonable price. I requested a table by the window which was perfect - whilst we waited the barman offered a taste of his signature Amaretto blueberry cocktail so I had one of those instead of a dessert - good decision!
Breakfast is served in that restaurant and this is my only negative comment: The buffet offered a good continental breakfast but there was a charge for a cooked breakfast which I thought was a shame.
Overall 5 stars - I definitely recommend this hotel and can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Corner room on the 5th floor - worth the upgrade just for the view

Great location to north of city centre. Comfortable rooms, friendly service, good breakfast. Spa next door a bonus, gym equipment was rather dated on my visit but sauna/steam/Jacuzzi with view of river very pleasant. Valet parking big positive.

Room Tip: Beware rooms where windows don't open and glass is covered with a 'frosted' film

We stayed here for 3 days over the May bank holiday, had a lovely room on the 6th floor with nice views. Overall we were very impressed with our room, loved the little touches like the iMac to play spotify on.

It's a really nice location, so near to everything including tourist sights and shops.

Little disappointed with the service, which I would call disorganised and a little awkward. Staff were friendly enough but I didn't feel that welcome especially after paying £300/night. I felt they could have gone the extra mile but didn't.

One thing to mention is the roof bar which is nice enough, It's open to the general public so on sunny days you may have to queue or share a packed lift to get to your room.

All in all a great hotel, but I'm not sure it's worth the money for the service we received. I think we would stay there again, but not without reservations.

We stayed here for one night for my 40th in 2013 and had a bit of a mixed experience. First off, the hotel is lovely and the room we had was beautiful, very spacious and with good views over Cambridge. It was clean, the bed was very comfortable, with a lovely bathroom and shower and other facilities. The location is very central but also on a quiet street. I really enjoyed being in such a plush place, and it did make our stay that bit more special.

There were unfortunately a few downsides. First off there is no parking for guests included in the price, which we weren't advised when booking. The options were to leave the car in the nearby car park, at £15 a night, or park in one about a mile away which was free overnight but would require us making an additional trip out the next morning prior to 8am to get a new ticket. We opted for the latter, and the hotel staff offered to make the trip to pay for more parking before 8am the next morning for us. They didn't. We got a parking ticket. Which they did pay for us, but then got huffy when we asked them to remove from our bill the cost of parking which they never paid resulting in us getting a ticket.

Second, whilst i was out moving the car my partner was shown to the room. Which was small and pretty dim. We were only moved to the lovely one I mentioned above because she kicked up such a fuss about it.

Thidly the spa is prety poor. Considering this is meant to be a presitge location I expected something more akin to the Bath Spa or the Harrogate Turkish Baths. In reality it's kind of like a Fitness First, so quite disappointing.

Finally, breakfast is served in a venue next door to the hotel, and to get to it you have to exit the hotel and walk down the street a short way. It's not a big deal but a bit of a pain.

Overall it's a nice place but that's for the quality of the accommodation over the quality of the service. For the premium they charge they do ned to do a bit better with some of the service and some of the facilities. I appreciate we were staying in June, which is a premium time for most places and more so for Cambridge with all the graduation events going on, but when forking out £200+ for a nights sleep you expect quality at a minimum.

Without doubt the best located hotel in Cambridge, perfectly positioned next to the water and central to the colleges and shops. Room was disappointing though, small and just average with no bath as shown on their website and a fairly small shower. It certainly wasn't worth the £245 price tag. Having stayed in a number top end hotels I would have expected a lot more for my money. Staff were friendly but again I wasn't blown away by their service. All in all great location and the River Bar (next to the hotel) is lovely but if you charge these kind of rates I would expect a lot more.

We were upgraded to a suite on arrival. The room is beautifully appointed and has fantastic views from the floor to ceiling windows. The balcony is a great place to catch the sun and relax.

The hotel was busy on the Saturday we visited as it was a hot weekend in May and it draws visitors to the rooftop bar.

Service is great from the moment you pull up outside the hotel.

Valet car parking is a definite bonus in Cambridge.

Stayed in January as part of a visit to the Cambridge Distillery and the hotel was superb. I can't remember the name of our suite, but it was a dual aspect room with floor to ceiling views of Cambridge - stunning and allowed us to take in the January view from the coziness of our room.

We only stayed one night and so because of the cracking room we didnt spend too much time in the communal areas.

Great location, very central for Cambridge, if a little confusing on how to get to it with the one way system in place. We opted for valet parking - definitely worth the money.

Breakfast was ok, we only opted for the contintental breakfast included with the room which was average - juice not fresh, pastries older (or from a packet?) etc

For once the gym facilities are actually very good, new equipment, proper weights area - worth a visit if you're interested.

Five points for the room, three for the breakfast.
