Stayed one night at the Varsity recently while in Cambridge for a meeting but also had a chance to explore the beautiful city of Cambridge.
I was very impressed with the Varsity hotel, its location is perfect, right in the city centre which was great for me after my meeting as a base to do some exploring.
- The staff were very friendly when I arrived and very assertive. Everyone was very polite which sounds trivial but is very welcoming when staying in a hotel.
- The rooms are fantastic, the views I had from mine were superb, right over the top of the city which was at night.
- The room was immaculate and well equipped with a huge TV and DVD player, they had DVDs which you could ask for at reception which I felt was quite nice
- I believe that the restaraunt is available for evening meals but I actually met a friend at the Mitre pub round the corner for dinner and a drink which I would also recommend, good service and good food.
- Although I did not make use of the spa I had a look around and it looked great. I did however use the gym in the morning before I left which was very good, well equipped, clean and trendy.

Overall I had a very pleasurable stay at the Varsity hotel. I will definitely be returning when in Cambridge again and recommend it highly

Stayed at the Varsity whilst on business, booked through late rooms and made a request for a room with a view, however when i was escorted to my room this was not the case, but the staff moved me immediately without question to the 5th Floor in a room named St Catherines,(the rooms are all named after Oxbridge colleges)
The room was lovely, comfortable and fabulous views.
Breakfast is served in the adjacent building which is held within the spa.
We ventured out for dinner and ate at the Cote restaurant at the end of the street which was really good value and lovely food

We stayed at Varisty for one night in September for our anniversary. I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling as a couple as we were. I wouldn't be quite as convinced if travelling with children or by myself.

I would say the following:

Location: Fantastic and just a short walk from the city centre, the river, the common and colleges. Lots of lovely little restaurants nearby

Bedroom: All facilities which were required were requested. No iron in the room, which is unusual, but one was brought up promptly when requested. The air con was great, the bed comfy and a wardrobe with proper hangers (not those stupid puzzle type hangers which are all too common in hotels and so annoying!).

Bathroom: Fantastic and huge Villeroy and Boch bath. Lovely shower.

The Spa: We used the facilities at the spa (an aromatherapy message and facial) and the spa was absolutely amazing! The best we've been to.

Overall, a great hotel in a great location. We'd certainly stay again!

This is a gem for a British hotel: to accomodate or 15 years old, we had to take a larger room - but it was worth all the money: spacious, wonderful bathroom, phantastic bed. If you drive up to this hotel you would think "where did I get here" - a very modest, unassuming entrance behind which you would expect a bed and breakfast place. A small reception area. You start to fear you made the wrong choice. But then you meet the reception people, warm, friendly, really nice, nothing formal. And then you come into the room: just great, we loved the big and cozy bed, the large bathroom with wooden floor and very special shower, big window... Great place!

Stayed for just one night in one of the penthouse suites. It's newly opened and our room was immaculate and spotlessly clean. We had two rooms - a large bedroom with four poster and a sitting room with two cosy armchairs and very nice TV with wonderful views over the city from both rooms. Watched the sunset over the rooftops of Magdalene college which was rather special. The bathroom was a bit on the small side but well appointed and we liked the Elemis products. The king size bed was very comfortable and room was very quiet - a pleasant surprise given we were in the very centre of the city. We used the turn down service which is always nice. if you're looking for a luxury boutique hotel which is intimate and in a great central location then this is definitely worth a stay. Whilst there was no room service whilst we were there we didn't miss it as there are some very nice restaurants just minutes away, by the river.

This hotel has an unassuming entrance tucked down a side street in the heart of Cambridge but is definitely an über-chic fabulous, friendly place to stay. The hotel sits beside the River Cam and from its six-floor roof garden you have some of the best and most stunning views of Cambridge.

The Hotel is part of a group of buildings that also comprise ‘The Glassworks’ - the Conran designed gym and spa and beside that - the River Bar Steakhouse and Grill. This does mean that you have to leave the hotel and walk six feet round the corner to gain access to the gym and in the morning that is also the way into the restaurant for a very good full breakfast. In the evening if you want to eat in the restaurant, again you have to walk outside the hotel and around toward the river to the public entrance.

The hotel also lacks, at the moment, any public space. When we stayed the roof garden had not been opened but we were shown up on a guided tour, also a planned first floor bar had not been opened.

There is no parking at the hotel, but there are two car parks nearby and we stayed in a long stay for about £6-7 a day, the porter went each morning to sort the ticket out for us.

We stayed in a Fellows King Room, which was a very pleasant comfortable room with 4th floor views of Cambridge. Again we were shown round some of the other rooms and the Masters Penthouse Suite rooms are very impressive with ceiling to floor glass and those stunning views of Cambridge.

We very much enjoyed our stay here and the staff are very friendly and enthusiastic about their hotel, the General Manager Roberto even sits out sometimes on reception personally greeting guests.

Cambridge is an amazing place to stay with its colleges, university(s) and history and The Varsity is a perfect ‘Cambridge’ hotel to stay in.
